Maybe they're suspicious of your motivations.

I pledge never to use this space for sleazy referrals, gambling spam, or to beg for handouts.

I assume so they can create a blockchain.info wallet since he's targeting total newbs.

"Targeting" sounds like the right word indeed...

My girlfriend recently created a Bitcoin account — I'm trying to get her and a few of her friends into Bitcoin. At the moment the whole of the Bitcoin community seems to be an absolute c*ckfest.

I think she qualifies as an absolute newbie as she's never used Bitcoin before. If you could fund her wallet to let her buy a few things I would be very grateful. I would send her some myself but I only have 0.01 BTC myself at the moment Wink

I tried the same thing on my facebook. first 10 address gets a piece of 1 btc. 24 hours later, no reply. After I mentioned " who knew giving away $1000 was so hard" people wanted a piece, but i denied them and said too late.

Not surprised tbh, people just can't imagine others giving money away for free and get suspicious.

As a brand new noob I honestly wouldn't mind getting some, no matter how little:

Why dont u ask them to work for The bitcoin network, by downloading The bitcoin-qt?

And as soon as they get sincronyzed, you send them the Bitcoins...

By this way, The "free" is almost not free...

I'd love to actually have some bitcoin. All mine so far is tied up in mining pools well under their payout limits, probably forever. Sad
