*****UPDATE: Sign-ups are now closed. I want to thank everyone who decided to participate!*****

Hello

I am looking for participants in a rather unique study I am undertaking, a social experiment if you will. I plan to keep track of this endeavor online, in this thread actually, and invite participants and others to follow along.

Due to the nature of this experiment, I need to keep the details secure for the time being, but will reveal more as the experiment progresses. For now, I need to solicit donations from the community. Don’t worry as what I require is fairly small.

I need to secure a total of $1.00 in present day value of bitcoin, which currently (17 January 2014) is trading at $790 on BTC-e and $885 on Mt. Gox, thus we will call it ~ $850.

Based upon this rough average, I need to ask for donations to equal 0.00117647 bitcoin. More is ok, but I would like to have multiple participants contribute toward the minimum donation, meaning each donation should be less than the required amount.

I have created a new dedicated wallet for this project and will use this same address throughout the project so that everyone can view the transactions on the block chain.

So anyone who is interested, please donate some BTC dust to: 1FxQJWfQm1g6eQjDj7KwCp4ovZ1o1QMhjk

Unfortunately, that is all I can reveal for now but rest assured more is to come.

Thank you for taking time to read this and for your consideration.

Best Regards,
Starman22

Lol, thanks for the offer. Wink

No, I need to keep it small, and also I cannot accept the whole amount from any one person.

Just by putting these conditions into place beforehand I have already unduly influenced the results, but since this will be a public experiment it will not need to meet the normal scientific rigor.

Ok, ok, I knew it would be a stretch that is why I kept the amount low. Remember you are not even supposed to give the whole amount, just some small fraction.

Surely there are a few people who can part with some dust? Smiley

I think you just broke the experiment...

I was thinking that, too.

Op: Feel free to give us more details if you'd like actual donations... As it stands, just as a hint in case this is serious, it just looks like you're a newbie trying to scam us.

Ok, thanks to ledmaniak the experiment is off to a good start.

I did want the donations to not all be from one person for this to work out as I hoped, but seeing as blockchain shows it is only worth $0.94 I could still accept a few more donations to try and get it to an even $1.

Once I get multiple donators I can reveal a bit more about the direction this will take. In hindsight, instead of asking for a fixed amount I should have simply solicited 5 donations. Five separate donors would help make the experiment more interesting, 10 would be even better.

To help keep everyone from thinking this is a scam, I will offer to refund some of ledmaniak's donation if others contribute. It would be nice to see everyone's share be a small amount.

Also, remember this is a donation request, thus I am not promising anything nor am I trying to cheat anyone. It is an experiment, which I can tell already will be quite challenging, and requires the participation of multiple people to be effective.

Yes, this is in fact one tiny aspect, but seeing as it is so obvious a requirement I will confirm this is indeed part of it.

Not a problem ledmaniak, and thanks for your willingness to participate. I am sure you will find it interesting as this progresses, but for the time being I still need to solicit a few more donors for the cause.

It is ok if the amount donated is greater than $1, I was simply trying to make everyone comfortable with asking for such negligible amounts, (10 cents x 10 people would be perfect) that I chose $1 as a reasonable goal.

Just like at the circus, you got to pay to see what is inside. Smiley

On a more serious note, I am happy with even $0.10 donations. As mentioned above, I actually need multiple people more so that a set amount, but I do need the starting amount to be high enough to not be destroyed by transaction fees, etc.
