I remember seeing a post on Slashdot describing how Nectome’s cofounder, Robert McIntyr is pitching a start-up that will use technology for preserving brains in microscopic detail using a high-tech embalming process particularly, future scientists will be scanning the brain and turning it into a computer simulation. In other words, one gets to be an immortal in a data server somewhere.

This attracts more attention to the much talked about possibility of designing a virtual space where our digital selves can live forever.

In world flawed by corruption, sickness and violence, one can’t help but consider living a better life in a virtual space.

That's all baloney!   Grin

For starters, we don't even know much about how the nerve cells work.

As for the commectome, i.e., the map of connections among nerve cells of the entire brain, we've just about managed mapping the mouse brain. But, as for linking that map to function, we're struggling even on the tiny nerve nets of worms.

It'll be several centuries of exponentially increased research work before we can understand the human brain at the level of nerve cell and axon and synapse. And even then . . .

I believe this will happen, but it requires too much centuries. I also writing a story about this topic from last 4 months. I really want to see it but don't know will we stay a alive to experience this technology
