Interesting phenomenon happening right now - no one I've asked seems to know why there's low trading volume in the exchanges since last weekend. BTC-E had a whopping 0.004 bitcoins traded in the past 15 minutes (Jan 18, 4pm E.S.T.) - really unusual to have so little activity on a Saturday afternoon like this. Trollbox activity very low as well - many of the frequent posters from months ago are absent.

Any ideas regarding what's going on?

The fast BTC run up from ~$125 to $1,200 attracted many new people and some of them are not the type to stick around when the road gets a little bumpy. BTC-e volume is still much higher than 6 months ago.

It's been slower lately, but things will come around again...

This is the time to keep mining and see the price slowly but steadily decrease for a few months before the next big pump appears that attracts new people again.

Hold and mine Smiley
