I want to create a 6 character vanity address. I attempted to from VanityPool but I was wondering if there's a free way?

Yes, but you will need a good video card (preferably with an AMD chipset) -- the software if called "vanitygen":

Thanks for the info. I didn't know it was that involved. I'll just generate like 1,000 keypairs on bitaddress and see if I find any good ones lol.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know it was that involved. I'll just generate like 1,000 keypairs on bitaddress and see if I find any good ones lol.

6 Chars is not really that involved and will only take days if you don't have a GPU.

If you got an Ati GPU (doesn't even need to be a new or particularly powerful one) it'll take a couple hours at most; you should definitely try it out.

Is 6-character a "hard limit" on vanity addresses? Or just anything longer would take much longer to generate?

I really want an 8-character address but I think that would cost me a bundle ..... it is 1friedcat - not bothered about case sensitivity .... let me know if its going to cost a lot.

yeah, just for fun because I'm a fan, I have a custom T-shirt of his if you want to see it. Or do you think I'm trying to impersonate him by using a vanity address, lol
