I'm running 6 S9s in an out building ducting each fan individually vented outside with a 6" duct. I also have a 12,000btu ac unit cooling the room. Today it's 90F outside temp. The chip chip temps are pretty consistent mid 70s on 4 of them, but 2 are showing chain6-84 chain7-82 chain8-84. I was curious what temps you all are running now that summer is approaching?

(6) S9s at 1450W is 8700 watts, or 29,685 BTU.  Good thing your venting!

85F here and my units, with just outside air, are running 57C - 75C.  They are very inconsistant.

Suggest running the math for 300CFM/miner * 6 miners * (outside air - indoor target temperature) and figure out if that 12,000 btu AC is going to get overwhelmed.

You should consider not air conditioning the miners unnecessarily. The chips can run even into the 140c range. For example, I saw 13 s9s today which were running with all boards at 110c chip temps or higher.

Of course it is bad to run the miners much above 100c chip temps, but if you are averaging mid 70s I would say you have a lot of leeway. I did a quick report looking at the max chip temp on miners not in thermal protection, I found an average of 87c. So you should be fine.

Thx for the replies! The ducting just got done last weekend because it was like a sauna in there. The ac unit is new too. I was really just hoping to remove the humidity and the little cooler air was a bonus. It's actually pretty comfortable now that the hot air is directed outside. For those that have been through a summer, is there a direct correlation between outside temp and the chip temp? For example, those same chips would be 94/92/94 once we hit 100F? What did you see last summer? I remember there being about a 20 degree difference this winter.

My miner temp is kept reaching 80c+ on the day, but every night its keep cooling down to 80c below with AC 12,000 BTU and 1.5HP, the old antminer still kicking compared to new one.

Since, you vented your miner outside and keep your miners temps down, unlike mine that I put my miner near to our windows just to keep the heat out because if the heat stays inside in your room the air inside of my room is mixed-up.

Anyway, maybe your other 2 miners why the temp is high it's because of big dust on the fan or the exhaust fan couldn't blow air properly, try to clean the fan and fix the vented to blow the air outside.

I don't know how useful it is to compare the temps like that. The chip temps are reported in degrees Celsius. Even with 100F ambient air typically the S9 will be in the 80-85c range from my experience.

Here's mine, this is with 92F outside and 95.3F inside the room with nothing more than an open door. This is all miners except the GPU miner vented outside with 6" duct. The GPU rig is simply an open air rig. It's funny I was always worried about the M3s when outside temps were going up, but they run that temp pretty much year round...

I hope to have a proper room (16x4) with filters and 2x 3k CFM exhaust fans going soon so I can expand if I ever want to.

One thing I have definitely learned is that room temp has a pretty good effect on the PSUs. Something I definitely overlooked in my research. I bet I have close to a 3-400W difference between summer time PSU usage vs winter time usage (you can see the day vs night temp differences in the graphs below). Sadly I did not have "smart" PDUs when everything when it was cold out so keep an eye on that. Not advocating cooling or not cooling, just illustrating what the PSUs do in different temps.

Whatsminers M3's are always at 83-84 no matter the temp it seems.

I have a mix of old (fixed 600MHz) and new (autotune) S9s.

Outside peak temps are in the 28-30 celsius (83-86 F) here. I was considering AC but with the added power consumption, mining would be unprofitable.

My old S9s are running around 100-105 C (with a LOT of ventilation), the new ones around 82-88 C. A huge difference.

I'll replace the fans (Delta - 4800 RMP) on the old ones with the same fans the new S9s come with (Nidec UltraFlo - 6000 RPM). I'm hoping that it's only the fan and not the firmware, i.e. if I install the new fans, they will run faster with the old firmware.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Originally I was going to build a sound proofed tunnel with a big exhaust fan out the wall. I thought I'd try this out and seems to have done the trick. That being said, I wish I would have put the outlets on the other side of the room and closer to the window. So far so good!

Mixed measurement warning

105* F outside today, 1st time the miners broke 90* C. Looks like my room peaked at 42* C ouch! I have to say my S9i is a champ at staying cool, not 100% sure what(if anything) Bitmain changed, but it's awesome. Anyway, I think I'll make it through the Texas summer.

Survived a 111F day, miner room temps got to 110.8, but nothing had issues although I logged my hottest power usage all year at 4700 watts for 3 S9s with Bitmain PSUs. This heat sucks especially 96F at night!
