I'm starting to get really pitiable results with Primecoin CPU mining ... is anything better CPU-only out right now?

Nothing is better than Primecoin to mine!  Look for prices to double from here!

You should try qubitcoin it has potental. Unique algo, cpu only and block halving is in few days so price will rise soon.

I'd say securecoin is one of the most profitable ones.

Also Datacoin has some potential, They're planning on developing a cloud storage that is related to it's blockchain. We should expect the price to rise after that.

BUT STILL, I'm mining with an 8 core amd cpu and I'm not able to make more than 1.50$ per day with any coin so don't get too excited.

The best CPU only coin is RieCoin. It just launched recently and is very rare and hard to mine. Price should skyrocket in the weeks ahead.
