After an announcement about OpenBSD's financial troubles was posted to #bitcoin-assets Bitcoin Billionaire Mircea Popescu stepped in to save OpenBSD.

No, these claims come from the market cap of his MPEx exchange company, by multiplying the share price by shares owned. In practice, his share would not sell for nearly as much of course.

Great early example of how bitcoin philanthropists can shape the world, simply on the basis of the type of investment choices they make. I can't quite see a traditional entrepreneur having stepped in to help a project like OpenBSD. Whether it's valuable long term, who knows, but perhaps Apple Computers might be quietly pleased; it will ensure they will continue to have a variety of BSD codebases to pilfer from, as they're said to have done in the past  Cheesy
