LOL, agreed!  2,000,000 is unrealistic.  Point of emphasis is to include as many people in original distribution as possible, nothing more.

Is it unrealistic?

Is this being pushed on RPi forums and the like?

There are a lot of people who could be potentially introduced to crypto through the RPi.

Not yet.  I am going to wait to introduce to RPi forums, but plan to before February 14th genesis registration begins.

You're more than welcome to warm them up ahead of time Wink

Very good question, thank you.

According to this: http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/tag/egoman, the EGOMAN version should be compatible.  Would be nice if someone could get their hands on one for testing.

This is who we are.  These are the principles on which PiNX is founded

So, you've got your Raspberry Pi and waiting, wondering, what can you do to help?

    1. Turn it on.  Tinker, play, learn.  http://www.raspberrypi.org/ is the best place to start.

    2. PiNX will be a fork of Nxt.  Therefore installing and running the Nxt client is another good exercise in preparation.

               http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/How-To:InstallNRSRaspberryPi

    3. Stay tuned Cheesy

Actually I already have a  red version of RPi from EGOMAN  Smiley
Will be glad to participate in the test.

As I am not too confident in my skills, will it be possible to simply DL data, copy it on a SD card, plug it in a RasPi, plug power & ethernet cable = everything working?

Also will there be a time window for the original distribution?
I have no Raspi for now, and doubt I will have one in my hand in 2 weeks.
Maybe a month?

Some precision to not miss the 1st early adopter window would be great.

Did I say interested yet  Smiley

Lol, yep!

Great. Interested  Smiley

Brownie points for being double-interested.  Stake stays the same Smiley

Now, a brief status update:

  • Interesteds aren't necessary anymore.  Enough interest has been shown.  I am active in development (will edit OP)
    • I expect to have an easy-to-use setup and configuration tool ready by end of the week

  • GitHub repositories have been initialized at https://github.com/PiNX-Community.  Again, nothing of consequence is in place
    • Everything will live in the GitHub repository with permissive licenses.
      • pinx-src  - where source code will live
      • PiNX-Community.github.io - website served from here
      • main - Home for Wiki

  • Licenses have been selected
    • MIT for source code
    • Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International for website and wiki
      • Can somebody knowledgeable of licensing reply if this is appropriate?

An FYI: The PiNX java client will be one of the last pieces of software to be finished.  Nxt source is scheduled for release in April, and it will be extremely tricky (if not impossible) to create a valid clone before then.  PiNX will exist as a pure fork of Nxt, so we will use the Nxt java client until then.

Marketing angle: A digital currency for Makers, by Makers.

Registration window: May be extended to allow outreach to the Maker community.

Framework is in place for community collaboration.  I'm not seeking help just yet but if you have any ideas, jump right in!

Hope to have easy-to-follow instructions for all commands.  Must be able to login to set some things up (so, you will need keyboard and monitory as well).

Also will there be a time window for the original distribution?
I have no Raspi for now, and doubt I will have one in my hand in 2 weeks.
Maybe a month?

I'm looking at that.  Want to get many people involved.

you know you are limiting yourself to rpi users only right? this will make your network very small....

Understood...  network size does not necessarily equate value.  What gives a currency true value is the ability to exchange it for goods or services.

Many cyptocurrencies are valued only through speculation and marketing, if not downright manipulation.  Some will become rich, others poor -- the 'pump-and-dump' we see all too often on these boards.

PiNX does not strive to become such a currency.

I believe PiNX has the potential to have more real-world value than many cryptocurrencies today.  The Raspberry Pi community is larger, more committed, and more supportive than you may think.  Early outreach into these DIY communities will be crucial to the success of this project.

Tipping will be important.  See a fellow hobbyist with an informative blog, or project idea you like?  Throw him a few yummies!  Let him know you appreciate the work!

There are no illusions of grandeur here.  The day I can go to a small website and purchase a digital LED board for my Raspberry Pi using PiNX is the day that I consider this project a success.
