Just thought if there would be any bounty campaign that would reward people not with their own tokens or btc but with merit, would it be ok ?
Since this is not selling merit directly and I saw some topics where merit was given for people who made OP laugh, or some other topics where merit was given for answering the OP's questions and it was allowed. What do you think ?

That'll cause merit farming my dear brother. Try to search a merit giveaway thread there's a lot in here but some of them are already inactive.

Maybe that will not gonna happen because smerit is just given if someone acknowledges your post, or by creating a thread that is very helpful to the community if someone will reward smerit for doing bounty that will ruin the merit system, read this guide about getting merit by TMAN https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3182178.0

Bounty campaign’s purpose is to promote their coins by giving free money to its participants in a form of rewards. People tend to jump in because of the marketing plan free money. The most common and well-known business strategy is word of mouth, if it’s free why don’t we try right? People will tell their friends that it’s free, we are the pioneer of this coin, we need to participate on spreading our coin’s advantages among other cryptocurrencies, and hoping that the price of their coins (free money) will grow. This makes it more attractive to people, and get them more engaged. Bounty campaigns played a major role to these vast ICOs, you just need to examine the idea behind, and giving them merit won’t work. Merit is already free; its purpose is to help the forum by:
Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.

Actually, It's not free, you need to work hard in order to get those coins like creating content, article youtube videos etc. or sharing tweeting in social media to promote their coins it's not an easy job you need to spend time because you need to report it to the forum every week, they will pay coins instead of money so it's not free at all, Airdrop is the one giving away free coins Bounty is different.

Totally agreed, lot of new forum members guess it's an easy money but it should be exhausting day by day generating content for different project.

Then the essence of the merit system will be lost mate. If that will be implemented, then anyone can earn merit by just spamming in the forum because as you said it will be like giving stakes. I urge you to visit the Meta Section so that you can read threads regarding merit and so that your idea about merit being awarded to posts that makes the merit giver laugh be change.

There would never be an bounty campaign that will pay a merit instead of coins, you know what?

1. Users only has a limited merits to give.
2. Think of how many people are going to join and rewarding them at least 1 merit per week. (Unless if you're a merit source.)
3. The manager or the project will be in bad reputation for this kind of act.

Well, a merit system was been implemented in order for the users to improve their posts and to avoid spams in this forum. Also as a user or a member of the forum our responsibility is to share the merit to those people who're qualified to rank up or to those users who posts high quality contents, useful contents and knowledgeable contents. So It's not ok to use it for a reward because it's main purpose is to give to qualified users.

This is just according to my understanding on how the merit works and I'm not the one who implement it. I'm just giving my opinion. I may be right or I may be wrong.

Bounty campaigns are rewarding users with crappy tokens that in most cases have 0 value as you can make millions of them with a few line of code almost effortlessly.
The same stands for bounty hunters, all they do is posting to fb and tweeter, a job that only requires pressing 4 buttons, ctrl,c,v,enter.

No "dev" team will have merit to award and almost no bounty hunters are able to create a post that would deserve merit.
So, even if we forget about the rules, it's not going to happen.

The primary purpose of Merit system is to award constructive posters and appreciate their efforts towards the forum. So as long as they are rewarded for posting in the forum, it is all okay, but if the campaign demands something else in return for Merits, then that breaks the basic rule of Merit system and I believe that won't be considered okay at all.

As far as I know there is a thread where Hero or Legendary member gives sMerits for good posts (the similar like you are the part of signature campaign). In his rules you must not be a part of any signature campaign - It seems like the same what you describe.

Is "Bounty" and "Merit" the only things that are the buzzwords in your brains? I come to "Meta" everyday and find a new thread with idiotic suggestions of being merited which shows that people like you are not happy with the merit system. If so why dont you all leave the forum and be at peace?

I see that you are having an intention to "exchange" merits. Either this way or that- you people cant live without merits. But what you are suggesting is a shady way to deal out such merits to scumbags. Roll Eyes

Merit is subjective for the merit source. Tongue

Yep, I guess we had something similar to that in the recent past though in a good sense of it. Participants were encouraged to churn out highly constructive posts and were rewarded at the end with sMerit. You didn't need to wear a paid advertising logo to participate. But I think that is paused now. The only thing, it wasn't tagged a bounty campaign. It was the Joe Signatureless campaign. Here is the link...https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3784164.msg37199297#msg37199297

That is the closest we have ever come to what you are seeking here, OP.

Maximum legendary members will have the 200 smerits totally. If they manager send all his merits instead of payment means do you understand what it denotes. That means you asking manager the sell his merits for payment.
It is not accepted by the forum rules I guess to sell the merits. I do not know where you got this idea to receive the merits instead of tokens or bitcoins.
You may think better for forum update and create a thread mate. Now you can lock it. Really unwanted discuss I believe.

In my opinion, we need to allow only merit sources to have a thread engaging with merit rewarding.

Was about to suggest this until i read your reply. I also think Joe's Signatureless Challenge would be the closest thing to the OP's queries. Since this is basically a signature campaign but your goal is to help contribute in the forum and possibly be rewarded with BTC and merit. And yes it's paused for now, and will be returning by mid june.
