I appreciate that you ask about our ideas to the premine issue. Get a lot of opinions - but then decide alone, with your team. YOU need to be happy with the design of your coin. There will always be haters who criticize your decisions. Some thoughts:
Premine is dangerous if too high, and handed out in too large amounts. That devalues the miner's work (more in
"Price creation awareness!" ...)
Premine is dangerous if not transparent what is it for. People fear that a big dump can happen anytime. But that can also happen from the side of large miners.
Premine is dangerous if it is too much. How many coins are created in 1, in 3, in 6 months - compare the premine to that. ~ Power of the dev.
No premine is dangerous because then there are no dev funds for bounties, giveaways, rewards ... to lift the coin from the ground. It may starve.
No premine is dangerous if the community is not strong, and everyone expects the dev to do everything. Consumer attitude.
No premine is dangerous because the devs might loose interest if there is a too long phase of stagnation. Devs have to fill their fridge, too.
A small premine, held transparently in a known address, with regular updates about expenses, distributed to many people in small giveaways, and fair bounties for the creation of 1st three pools, 2 block explorers, 1st exchange, faucets, games, 1st three real world applications of the coin, etc. can be useful.
A no-premine coin is very attractive, it's an honest thing. But if it gets into stagnation phases, then the community needs to cooperate, create crowdbounties, donate for giveaways & faucets - work together. I like that, actually. But I don't like if it doesn't work out.
Hmmm ... if there are trust issues, and don't forget how this coin is named *g* ...
Premine Escrow Idea... perhaps some established member of this forum could be
asked to escrow the premine; and hand over (for example)
1/3 in the first month,
1/4 in the second,
1/5 in the third month,
1/6 in the fourth month, and
then pay the devs a premium for all their work = the remaining 4%,
after he takes 0.5% of the premine for his trustworthyness?
And I, drakoin, get 0.5% of the premine for this beautiful concept
:-)
Then the premine is spent to 100%, and the coin is a winner,
and the devs really deserve those 4% as a small reward.
And can finally have some holidays!
That way, there can be no sudden dump, there is always more coins
to develop the thing further, new users can be pulled in in several
waves ... it's a mid-term long-term strategy. That's that. Now back:
The question remains:
How much premine of the total coin supply is clever?
