http://torrentfreak.com/fbi-drags-google-glass-man-from-theater-on-piracy-fears-140121/A small quote from the article: “They wanted to know who I am, where I live, where I work, how much I’m making, how many computers I have at home, why am I recording the movie, who am I going to give the recording to, why don’t I just give up the guy up the chain, ’cause they are not interested in me. Over and over and over again.”
And then yet more paranoia. Even though the Google Glass was switched off the man wasn’t allowed to touch the device out of fear he would “erase the evidence.” The FBI also asked some pretty strange questions.
“Then they wanted to know what does Google ask of me in exchange for Glass, how much is Google paying me, who is my boss and why am I recording the movie,” he explained.
I laughed a couple of times reading that article... so this is what the FBI is for.

This is absolutely nuts. Who in their right mind would think this is even semi-okay?

To be fair, it clearly states that recording devices are not allowed in theatres. Google glass is a recording device.

To be fair, it clearly states that recording devices are not allowed in theatres. Google glass is a recording device. That's kind of meaningless nowadays though; the most basic cellphones are recording devices for example. And that is to say nothing of the completely out of proportion response to the incident.

Theatre workers will pull you out of the theatre as well if you are using a cell phone. These guys did over-react, yes, but probably because it was their first time experiencing google glass.

Wait a sec... please clarify this for me... Are you saying that never having seen Google Glasses before, they decided to play it safe and assume he was a terrorist? EDIT: Simplified post.

Wait a sec... please clarify this for me... Are you saying that if this was a honest to goodness "pirate", it would be perfectly normal to send for 5 to 10 cops, mall cops and FBI to detain him? Or that never having seen Google Glasses before, they decided to play it safe and assume he was a terrorist? I'm saying they may have overreacted this time, and they may overreact again, but they will eventually get used to it.

This is ridiculous how google is with the FBI. They record everything you search on google.com and read your emails and so much more. It's such an invasion of privacy and this product can't be trusted.

Why was he wearing them to the cinema? I can understand why they might suspect him of attempting to pirate a movie, but I'd suggest just not wearing a recording device strapped to your head to avoid any potential conflict.

He was wearing prescription google glasses apparently. This is so full of Fail. In this case I have no sympathy for the FBI, nor the Google glass dude, nor that stupid movie about Christians from Russia who get their orders from a local Orthodox priest in Dearborn, Michigan to "get" new york.

He was wearing prescription google glasses apparently.
When I walked in I would have asked for the manager, explained to him they were prescription glasses, that they would be off during the movie, and I would give him the glasses after to verify there was nothing on them. But that's because I've had time to think of the perfect response.

But that's because I've had time to think of the perfect response. If I had those google glasses I would feel entitled to my superiority of being chosen among the few by THE google to use their magic glasses everywhere I pleased. Why waste my precious time with a theater manager when, seeing the Feds coming to get me, I could just talk to my glasses and say "OK Google! Show me the best deals on lube for prison buddies!"

It's nice to see law enforcement committing so many resources to what could have been a shocking and heinous crime. It's not like there are any murders, rapists, terrorists, drug barons or fraudsters wandering the streets.........

A small update to the story: http://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-google-glass-is-no-threat-but-mobile-phones-are-140125/. Soon after the story made headlines all over the world. The MPAA received numerous inquiries from the press and eventually delivered an official response. The movie group said that the whole incident was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and that Google Glass is actually not a significant piracy threat.
“Google Glass is an incredible innovation in the mobile sphere, and we have seen no proof that it is currently a significant threat that could result in content theft,” the MPAA said in a statement.
[...]
“Movie thieves are very ingenious when it comes to concealing cameras. It may be as simple as placing a coat or hat over the camera, or as innovative as a specially designed concealment device (e.g., a small camera built into eyeglass frames or a camera built into the lid of a beverage container),” MPAA warns.
A camera built into eyeglass frames? Doesn’t that sound exactly like Google Glass?

It feels like paranoia... Google already bought so many robot companies and AI companies that there is no way for you to hide
