Howdy!

I kinda wonder if it is too late for me to start scrypt mining? I have recently doubled my BTC ammount in Doge jump, so I have a fair ammount to spend. What ya think guys?

It's not late and in my opinion it might never be late (maybe I'll explain my opinion further in another post). But you'll need to build your own mining rig witch requires certain amount knowledge. Also scrypt mining is much different than how the bitcoin mining works. By breaking it down you'll see that currently the most efficient way to mine is using a graphics card; graphics cards offer you a nice hashrate but still consume a lot of energy and produce much of heat since they weren't originally designed for running 24/7 in oc settings for solving computations such as these litecoin (or scrypt coins in general) mining requires.

I have some basic knowlege regarding building computer/etc so it shouldn't be hard. I will also do some research which cards and mobo I should use. Well even if it won't be profitable, I will still have cards and hardware I can sell, right? Smiley How long is a GPU lifespan when it runs 24/7? Will it work for like 3 months or should I expect some of them permorming bad/breaking after this time? I am thinking about 3 cards and using them in about 70 degrees.

That is a good question too actually. Another question of mine would be - will my flat be able to run lets say 6x4GPU rigs? If not, is there something I can do to allow such power usage? I see no problem in connecting cards to mobo etc, that is the easiest part ^^. And I think 280x are the way to go at this moment matey.

Yea, but mining cards used to be at 70° is wasting them! I believe You should take as much as You can from the cards, coz as You said You have warranty. Go big or don;t even try, thats what I say! Cheesy

Most cards have a 2-3 year warranty but you can't rely solely on that. Voltage instability can burn your cards so you should consider buying a UPS to be more secure if you're going to put lots of money in your rig. Also keep in mind that hardware loses value by time and use after you purchase it.

Yea I know that I can't rely on warranty.
Using a UPS is pretty risky from what I head, voltage jumps using it are INSANE. Correct me if I'm wrong.

With the new Scrypt ASIC that may not even ship, scrypt mining with GPU may be a bad idea. Try scrypt-jane, more fair algorithm.

Yes, you are correct, UPS's should not be used with mining rigs, just plug them right into an outlet.  All mine are run right into outlet. More stable voltage.

Learn from my mistake. I recently bought two used GPU's for much lower than market price, and am getting much higher kh/s than the previous owner with them. I don't think he knew what he was doing.

Anyway. In order to run all 3 of my GPU's now i needed a new PSU. after I installed the new PSU I powered my two SATA harddrives with the old modular sata power cable from the old PSU. When it didn't boot, I inspected the connections and noticed the 6pin socket that goes into the PSU to power the drives is different on the new/old cables. I ended up frying both of my harddrives - about $250 in damage.

Hopefully SOMEONE sees this and learns from it.

70° should be ok.

I have about 190 Gigabyte 7950s that run at 60° in the winter overclocked and 80-90° in the summer. I've had 3 that had fans broken that I replaced with after market. They have been running any where between 7 and 15 months like that.

So your farm is around 150Mhs ?? Where did you place your farm?? I don't find any place in western world with cheap electricity, so I plan to extend my farm to Asia (China or Vietnam). But maintain it would be a nightmare so I still consider. Could you share some tips how you maintain your super big farm??

If you want to do scrypt mining better start right now! In the 2nd half of 2014 there will be so many scrypt ASIC's out there making difficulties skyrocket no one without a large budget to spent will be able to make a profit.

More like 120 to 125. We don't  live in a perfect world. I'm incorporated and I pay. 07 cents per kw. There are a lot of places in the US are there is cheap electricity. Just have to look.

I programmed my own miner monitoring application that controls the cards and redistributes them to different coin networks and restarts the gpus.

The biggest thing you should worry about is airflow. Hire an HVAC specialist to do it right.

The best price I paid in Europe right now is 0.15 USD / kW (incorporated too. The base price is around 0.07 USD too but one hell of tax here in West Europe) . And price for electronic equipment is a lot higher than in US. It made me sometimes to think that USA is the true paradise for technology Cheesy

I have a pretty big industrial warehouse here so I will split my next rigs for better airflow. Thanks for your tips.

Uhm you mean you have completely rewritten miner from scratch or you wrote your monitor app which uses cgminer api to check and control your rigs?? Or you forked cgminer and rewrite the interface for your need ?
It's pretty good idea. I don't think it is very hard but it still requires time. Could you tell how long did you take to write your app ??

Thanks for answering Smiley

In Greece you pay around .10 Euros/kW. And with a simple application you get a 50% discount for any electricity spent during night time. I've talked with people that have invested in scrypt mining and they consider moving here.
