If I have all my Bitcoin on my QT application on my laptop, and find myself out somewhere only with my iPhone, exactly how do I send BTC to someone using my iPhone?
I am aware of the technique of using Coinbase, logging into their site, and sending from there (with a nice fee taken out too!) .... using Safari (since apple banned their app).
But if my coins are not in Coinbase, and I sure as hell dont' want to pay a "withdrawal fee" ... how do I send from my iPhone?
EDIT: As per responses, there is no fee to send from Coinbase.
If there is more than one way, please let me know.

You can't. Unless you have a way to log into your home computer from your phone? Maybe you should look into blockchain.info, I think you can access them from a smartphone? Get an android phone instead of an iPhone, then you would have a lot more options, like using Electrum.

Coinbase only charges a fee to sell you bitcoins. Sending them is free.
I recommend that you create a separate blockchain.info wallet and use the blockchain.info app on your phone. In my opinion, Blockchain.info is safer than coinbase.

Coinbase is how i've done it in the past with an iphone. There's no extra fee for sending btc with coinbase.
I ended up switching to android though, much better options both for bitcoin and just the control i have over my phone in general.

For the most part Apple used DRM to censor Bitcoin applications so there are very few choices for using an iPhone to send Bitcoin. One app that made it past the Apple censor board is blockchain.info's app. https://blockchain.info/wallet; however one must keep in mind that Apple may at any time censor this app so this is not a long term solution. Rumour has it that this app is not updated in order to avoid triggering a censorship review. The best option here is to ditch Apple and get an Android phone.

I don't think it has to even be jailbroken. Mine isn't jailbroken and it works fine. And you could write the keys down on used toilet paper .

Is there an app yet for smartphones where you can transfer bitcoins from one individual to another by scanning their QR code when displayed on the other person's phone? Or at some point at a retailer (perhaps one day like Starbucks)?

You can do that on the blockchain.info app. I'm sure there are others too.

I don't think it has to even be jailbroken. With jailbroken iphone you get the fully functional blockchain.info wallet. Apple added restrictions, and some of the functionality got removed from the app store version of blockchain.info

The Blockchain.info app works great on the iPhone, even without jailbreaking it. I made a payment to someone today, and he received it nearly instantaneously.
No problem.
