I'm building a high performance PC to mine while I'm away at work. I don't need anything crazy, If I could bring in even just $20 - 30 dollars a week I'd be satisfied. So like 4 or 5 bucks a day. My question is, with the difficulties what they are is this still a possible thing? I mean, if I mined using a really nice GPU would that be enough to make that amount of money? And of course I would have a decent cpu as well, but that's not as important. I'm not worried about electricity either.

Am I wasting my money building this? Is an ASIC rig basically my only solution?
Any suggestions for someone starting out? I've got a starting budget of about $200 - 300 dollars. I can increase that budget by making money once things get going.

Thanks

Use the BitcoinWisdom calculator for both Litecoin and Bitcoin to determine if it's worth it:

Also these are good calculators:

Yeah try mining for other altcoins instead. May I suggest Premine? Its a rare coin (500k)

You're in cloud kookoo land if you thing $300 is a high performance PC.  Add a zero to the end of that and you're getting there.

Though, all that said, if you could spend $500 you could get a decent enough machine - $200 for a low-end PC that has two PCI-E slots.  Add a pair of nVidia 750Ti cards which give you about 500kH with less than 120W power use.  Mine altcoins, with that and you'll get about 0.005BTC a day from somewhere like Wafflepool or Scryptguild.

With $200 or $300 that's over half a Bitcoin at today's rates.  More than any PC or rig priced at that range would ever mine.

Just buy half a BTC instead and hold.
