I am a jr. member and I think merit system playing a vital role to  upgrade membership as well as avoid spam post. Many a person got merit by chance I mean they got chance as they posted before new rank system. But they did not posted helpful topic and not posting any helpful topic or comment. In this case I think as to be a  upgraded member we need merit such a way to stay on the current membership they have to receive merit too. My opinion is to stay on current membership they have to receive a percentage of merit on a particular phase of time it may be 5 percent per month, 10 percent per 3 month or something like that. And percentage can be differ from the types of membership.

Note: If any admin think it is inappropriate then remove this post or let me know I will remove it.

This seems a valid point. Many members received merit based on their existing rank when merit was introduced. But if you look at some of those members, their posts would not have received any merit. So automatically giving them merit means there is not an even playing field.

What you said that is true, but thought behind the merit system is improve post quality and reduce the spam post. If certain % merit will be allocated after some time, then nobody thinks about the forum and post quality.

Continue with the quality post, that will only help you to improve your membership.

GOOD LUCK...

It will only create more forum spammer, if percentage system will be implemented, people will just spam, create more account, and just wait for the time to have their free merits to rank up, it’s not how merit system work. The main purpose of merit system is to help us enjoy reading those with quality post. You don’t need to chase merit, mate. The fact that you purchased a CM means you are serious with your membership here, please don’t waste it, and be a quality poster. My advice: you just need to be yourself to earn merits. I’m contented with the current merit system and glad that it was implemented. See you around.

Speaking of spammer, I think these links contributed to the idea on signature campaign:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1443
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=6797
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=142136

EDIT:
-snip-
Sorry but I have not mention certain percentage for new member or jr. member. I mention the member or higher rank need to get new merit to stay on their current membership. If in a certain period of time they cant receive any merit they should be delisted from their current membership. So there is no way to increase spam post hence it will help to get helpful and quality post from them.

I am a jr. member... we have to receive a percentage of merit on a particular phase of time it may be 5 percent per month, 10 percent per 3 month or something like that. And percentage can be differ from the types of membership.

Older members didn't get their ranks by 'chance'. They got their ranks because they found out about Bitcoin long time ago and joined this forum.
You just have to accept it and live with it.

I would suggest you to change the title to something like "Suggestion to merit and rank requirement" to highlight your point as well as distinguish this topic from theymos' original thread more explicitly.

No.

If certain % merit will be allocated after some time, then nobody thinks about the forum and post quality.

Yeap, that's what it was like when we had ranking based on activity. Don't worry about the merit points, if you're not shitpisting, you'll get enough merit to rank up.

Think of it like this. You need about a year and half to get enough activity for a hero member and you can get enough merit for that rank in just a few days. Activity is fixed, merit is not.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

That's simply won't work, one needs to create quality topics like, for instance, useful merit statistics or how to create signatures from a scratch. Avoiding shitposting will only save you from getting red trust, that's it. Merits flow are diminishing every day, soon ranking up will stop on this forum for 99% of users.

<...>
The suggestion of de-ranking people if they didn’t receive a certain fixed/percentage amount of merits in a given period of time has been discussed on Meta a few times before, with basically no acceptance.

De-ranking would be trying to rewrite history just because it doesn’t suit you (actually, that kind of happens quite a lot, but that’s not the point). Ranks were achieved by playing along with the rules set at the time (which had their obvious bumps). If we’ve come into the game at a later stage, the mind set should be that of assuming the rules, not that of trying to bend then to our needs after only four months of rule change.

That doesn’t mean that rules have to be accepted and end of, you can legitimately suggest changes, but would you accept being demoted at work if your work was not “meritable” enough? That's kind of the same analogy being suggested here.

I think it is negative thinking. There should be some benefit to those members, who joined this forum at an early stage and help this forum for reaching today's height.

An early stage, members were selflessly giving their time to grow this forum. So this forum rewarded them for their work by giving them merit according to their respective position AND IT IS MORALLY WRONG, IF FORUM WILL TAKE IT BACK.

Nowadays this forum is very popular and there is also financial benefit by doing the signature bounty and other bounty programmes. So new registration is going on very fast.

As a new member If this is to be introduced, It would forfeit the idea of merit in the first place. People would just go on posting sh*t whenever they can. I can understand this. You should to. It might tqketime to get the required merit but you will get it with good post. Their should be no other way. ☺️😊

I am a jr. member and I think merit system playing a vital role to  upgrade membership as well as avoid spam post.
Both of these are not the prime functions of merit system. Merit is preventing shitposters from ranking up. Also "Upgraded Membership" is something like the Copper Member or the Donator status. Spam is still occurring.

But they did not posted helpful topic and not posting any helpful topic or comment.
Merit is subjective.

This type of a suggestion was made a few threads ago. It will not happen because those who are already ranked up would not want their ranks degraded. They may become inactive in the forum for personal reasons but that does not mean that their contribution to the forum is zero.

On the other hand people like you can work on your post quality and then think about merit.

But what about all those helpful posts they might have made before the system that they never got merit for? You could argue this isn't fair.

Either way, how does this effect you? You still have to get your merits so I'd just concentrate on that as opposed to the merit of others.

Also, please don't multipost. You can edit the previous responses into one post.

I get your point there but in my point of view merit system is implementes because of spams. Newbies and jr. members are not the only one who spams the forum, there are higher ranks who also spam the thread so those who ranked hero and legendary and lower ranks except jr. member and newbie will be given merit base on their rank. I suppose you know the merit and rank requirements. Member need 10 merits to rank, full member need 120 merits, so you still think that your rank is hero for example but your merit is 10 and that will be a failure to the system and many members will complain that there is a member who's rank is hero/legendary but he/she had like 10 merits for example. About what you are trying to do is like removing merit system that will cause to spam because thet can earn a percentage of merit depends on how many months. I'm not good in english grammar though but you should work with your english skills. Lots of ways to learn fittotalk.org, youtube and other learning english sites.

Thanks all.

There are many thread keep on creating on this section to discuss about this merit system bro. So no problem you want to clear yourself about the rank up and quality in the posts.
I have seen suggestion is really good but practically it should be taken in action by our own admin theymos mate.
Still you can see the merits system out shown upto 120 days count under your profile.

I have really tried to comprehend what you are trying to say but not getting through.

With the enactment of the merit system then everyone is restless will get rewards....

However, I want to correct an impression, it is not true that everyone is restive to get merit rewards, some members here have genuinely and effortlessly got enough merit rewards higher than there post and activities.

I do like your opinion, it would be little embarasment if they saw my account with 1000+ post and 900+ activity  in the future and my account is still Jr. Member so I'd love if my account is automatically  added merit every month.

There's a rule: if something is working don't touch it. The merit system is working just fine, no need to be tweaked or anything. Everyone get what they deserve, even the cheaters, so why change something that is working???

Let it run for a little longer, make it a year, for example, and then see what's going on. Many are still hoarding their sMerit for some reason, big part are still not aware of the merit at all. Just check the meta, every now and then are popping up all the same questions " what is merit", "why I do not rank up", "merit just broke my life... ". Let them learn first.
