You should be able to safely run 2 Ants on a 1000W PSU, or 3 ants on a 1300W PSU.

I would not try to run 4 Ants on a single PSU. It's difficult and expensive to find a single PSU that can run over 1600W.

Each Ant requires 2 dedicated PCI-E cables to safely run.

Apparently a 530W psu can run a standard (not over clocked) S1. So you'll need 2.12kW to run 4 (530*4). These are all my assumptions, but sushi told me that 530W should be able to run a 180gh/s S1.

The 500w measurement is completely false, was done w/ a shitty PSU. At the wall w/ a 80+ GOLD @ 120v, I see about 1w / mhz, so 400mhz is about 400w! Take 10% off that and these use roughly 360w @ 400mhz, on the PSU itself.

Agreed, all of my Ants use less than 400W at the wall running at 200GH/s using a good quality, Gold PSU.

I'm running 2 ants per AX860 PSU and 3 ants per EVGA G2 1300W PSU

i think you should use Corsair ax860(comes with 7 years warranty) platinum it has a 93% eff. on 230v i used to have 2 antminers @ 180ghash stock clock and 25 usb sticks with no problem. best psu you can get otherwise you should go for the Evga Supernova 1300 Gold(10 years warranty) where u can run 3 ants on.

Apparently a 530W psu can run a standard (not over clocked) S1. So you'll need 2.12kW to run 4 (530*4).
thats because all pc psu have a max load for 3.3 + 5V + Antivoltages and another max for the 12V rails wich is then combined to the official watts on the box. while high power "gamer" supplies tend to deliver up to 95% of their stated power on 12V

so you need a "reserve" on a 500w one but can run 3 ants on a 1200w one instead 1500

I was running one unit off a Dell N750P PSU. The fan noise was a killer though, so today I switched to an IBM DPS-2500BB A PSU, cooled with two 3000rpm 120mm fans I strapped on the side of it. At over 200 ampere at 12v it is a total overkill for one antminer so I'll try hooking 3 more units to it tomorrow.

EDIT : if sidehack comes though with his mod thingy and I will be able to tune the fan speed on the Dell PSU, it'll be perfect, as I really like these units. Very compact.

with a killawatt check, my s1 uses 420@stock and 490@200ghs 400mhz. put 3 on a 1350watt psu, which claims 1500 watt peak, was running fine on one batch but on another on of the s1 switches on and off, i assumed it was not getting enough power, underclocked it was fine.

was told that running the psu at peak reduces its life by 40% and may even damage it.

Very compact.

whats side hack unto on the PSU's
do you have a link ?
