I tried putting a miner like that (vertically on top of some grill like yours) at home and the result was poor, very noisy and not stellar cooling. So i built the DIY "black box" of mdf and put it inside, this lowered the noise to about 50db, but the most impressive change was the cooling, the fans spun down much more to keep it at the target, since i put a proper heatwall (made of the same MDF as the rest of the box) that only fits the two main miner FANS. The improvement in cooling was astounding.

Leaving the miner like that vertically on top of a grill with the rest open, was big no no, noisy and overheated.
Also, Power Target is more efficient than Hashrate Target in Braiins OS. Indeed mine is set to Power Target and the lowest setting. Before the box i had to disable a couple of hashboards to make it quiet, not anymore...

And you are running a full unit  at 3000 watts or 2600 watts or 2200 watts.

using 230 volts correct?

It is not relevant to this thread as this is about running under 1000 watts and 110/120 volts.

I realize I can make a different enclosure but I really am aiming for under 1000 watts with a psu that can run at 120 volts.

I did a braiins model in the 1 board case and it is good fairly quite and fairly efficient.

I really wanted to perfect a 1 board design. Under 1000 watts

Very cool - so looking at the way you've got it running, have you fitted it with a Loki Kit? (just curious). Looks like you've got it running on 240+ Voltage.

I don't know why I didn't think to fire them up without it.... I bought a couple pre-fabbed units from Altair but also built 3 of my own. I have them all doing their thing in garages/basements lol.

Just thinking though.... when I built out the electrical in my farm, I ran a bunch of 100% Duty Rated L6-30R receptacles to 35A Phase Combining breakers with 8 AWG wiring going from the panel to the receptacles.

Most of my PDU meters will show a constant draw of about 5.2-5.6 kW (with a total *peak* capacity of 7.2). Could totally fill out some of the available headroom with more setups like these where that would be safe but running an additional whole-miner setup would not. As we near the warmer months - the garage chimneys will, more than likely, have to be powered down or relocated... Maybe this is my solution.

i used apw3++ and loki chip to allow the apw3++ to be accepted by the controller.

the apw3++ could use 120-240 and you could add one to to your 30amp circuit they are well under 1000 watts but you need the loki chip or the controller will not use the apw3++

I did run it using a single hashboard by disabling the other two before building the box. I may disable one or two hashboards if i need it to be even quieter later. Yes it was tested at defaults (louder) but has mostly run at the min setting of 1677W because its even quieter. The input ac is actually about 204V (would be 208V nominal in theory), whats what you get when you have 3 120V phases and use the hots from two which is what is typically given to each flat.

If you use only one board you are using about 1/3 of the power target set. So 1677/3 is about 559W + fans.

I have to play a bit more to perfect these.

I love the look of the red chimney model but it needs a ½ inch offset to cool correctly.

The 3d printer I have access to is just a bit too small to correctly build the newer case.

I do have an idea to offset the fans that should work.
