So I was thinking if I could mod a mod that is offered on line.

I would run braiins+
I would tune the board to 30th and about 875 watts

I would use 4 noctua 3600 rpm ppm 120mm fans.

I Should have some posts on this soon. and of course some photos.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

this unit Is running at the mine it uses 240 volts. and about 3200 watts at full speed.
it has standard fans and is Loud loud loud!

the mod will allow for 120 to 240 volts

it will use brains and must stay under 12.5 volts.

You can see it does 11.75 volts when set to 96 th or 32th for a board

this setup when built will not use the stock psu.
it will only use 1 board.

and depending on settings the board can do 20th to 30th at well under 30 watts a th.

it is still tuning so the numbers should get better.

I decided to go with a s19 xp not an s19 110 pro.

It is hot in the garage so watts go up a lot.
811watts  is not my real power use my meter reads 750. I know the meter is good.

here is the xp with a braiins controller and 1 xp hashboard attached

here is the power meter once I opened the garage door watts dropped from 750 to 698

so the gui reads 811 watts and the meter reads 750 hot garage door closed
the gui reads 760 watts and the meter reads 698 garage door opened .

that should definitely be achievable! I purchased a BitChimney from Altair Tech (along with 3 other 3D Printed Shells - my ender 3 pro just died, but I want to make more of them before deciding between Creality and Bambu lol).

The BitChimney, utilizing a single S19K Pro board, an APW3+, a Loki Kit from PivotolPlebTech, and a Xilinx controller with BRAIINS (or a UMC w/ Powerplay), pulls similar figures.

The screenshot linked is running on US residential power (116V measured at the wall with a Spartan meter *purchased from Amazon for about $25 - not the most accurate tool but close enough*)

edit: not sure why the image isn't showing but here is the imgur link. https://imgur.com/a/jzDXUv6

Love to see more people exploring the possibilities of what can be done with low power expenditure - getting residential mining enthusiasts back online with far more impactful hashrate. Looking forward to seeing how you make out!

I know someone who did this very thing but ended swapping the small fans with a duct fan, 4" or 6" AC Infinity.
With the njord to control the fan and loki to use a modded S9 psu...

I talked with Altair tech.  I may make 10 or 12 units.

a s19
a s19 pro 110

a s19 xp

that comes to 9 units.

I will need the Loki duo and I will use braiins

I have a guy that can print cases.

I have many apw3++ psu's

If you look below you can see  an xp is says 791 watts, but it is more like 740 watts.

other than the Loki kits and some new extra controllers

I have 60-70 s19 boards

If you do the lessor psu mod. the psu's do 12.5-12.7 volts

this lets you go to 800 watts easy.

I have 2 loki duo kits on order.

once they arrive I will build an xp in the chimney

and have my buddy print a case for the 100th pro.

I think build this and liquidation go my btc asic miners will be my 2024 move.

what can be said about the efficiency of the old/new bitmain PSUs?

Would it be better to get a PC PSU with a high efficiency platinum rating?

Might only be 5% difference but that might add up over say 1-4 years

175.2 is saved over 4 years at 1kw and price of 0.1 kw/h

won't fit in the case. that is built for this mod.  Also the apw3++ is around 90% efficient.

I just about have the build done.

I ended up using an epic controller.  the epic can go really low  board can do 23th instead of 30th

decent stats and fairly quiet.

I can down clock more and I can get it quieter
I have noctua fans set to 2500 rpm

Happy to see you making progress here! Curious... which model Noctua fans did you use? and would you say it is quiet enough to run in, lets say - a living room?

I noticed the same as you regarding lower clocks on the UMC vs BRAIINS. Using BRAIINS, setting the frequency under 368 MHz on my single board 19K miner results in failure to start hashing at all - works like a charm, however, using PowerPlay on the UMC.

Excited to see what sort of a case design you wind up with!

braiins only goes down to about 32th

epic has more range 20 th on the low side 36th on the high side.

i am using noctua 3000 rpm industrial fans they are not good enough. which i suspected would be true.

I ordered some delta they do 3700 rpm and 151cfm i have used them on other quiet builds.

If I set them to 3000 rpm they are quieter than the noctua at 2800 rpm

I skipped a few things to save money.

no wifi saves money.

these are good units i prefer the epic controller over the brains controller.

it would let me do 20th min up to 40 th max maybe more.

here is the gui at 30th fans at 94% which are too loud note that it reads 736-737 watts. it is lower on my meter 716.9 to be exact

note chip temps are 68.9 c

now I have perpetual tuning set to 90th which gives 1 board 30th.

I am going to set it to 105th which is 1 board at 35th

I will post back in an hour.

so 35 th
868.9watts
830 watts my meter.

note temps crept up to 73.8 c

these noctua are at 94%

so they will not cool a 40th setting well they are good at 20th  to 35th

two units one with braiins does 32-37th

one with epice does 20-34th

the case in red is Oem seller the green one is my buddy doing a reprint.

the case has a pair of design flaws.

so in my green rebuild I raised the case allowing a set of 120mm x 38 mm fans.

both are running on the same 120 volt 20 amp circuit pulling about 1400 watts total

so you get over 50th at under 1400 watts.

fan speed on the brains all about 3000 rpm all fans are 120mmx38mm Two fan sizes on the epic in the red case the bottom fans are 120x25mm

note the gray Oem grill it is short and does not allow for unrestricted airflow if you put a 38mm fan I used a 25mm fan on the bottom so the red unit does not cool as well as the green one.  also note I have a 12 inch board under the 2 units along with four white rubber feet to anchor my modded  version

you can see the 25mm fan is tight. you could put this red model with the gray bottom and 38mm fans if you set it on a grill like I did with the green one.

fancy duct restricts air I removed it as it should have flaired outwards not inwards

duct is fitted loosely to show it restricts air flow

lowest setting is 60th for three boards which is divided by 3  to get the one board i used so 20th on epic controller is as low as you can do.

20th is around 525 watts

highest option is on braiins you can do 37th which is around 900 watts.

both machines are temperature dependent colder means better efficiency. I can get them to do 22 watts a th in a cold room.

these are eth based only rj45 plug in.

Any ETA for purchasing?

Sure the red one has an epic controller

it can do 20th to 30th as is but if you want it to be faster I can swap out lower fans and add a grill it would let you do as high as 35th .

I can have it ready to ship by monday.

the green one is ready today it does 32 to 37 th.

these use only eth cables.
the apw3+ psu can run on 120 or 240
it can only do 12.7 volts which is why you are limited to 34-37th on top end.

I left out the wifi mod
I left out the more complex psu mod. lowers costs.

Not sure what to ask dm me and we can talk price.

I just boosted the red epic to 30 th see below gui

new white grill shelf for better air

close shot of red epic controller  version note I have 25mm fans on bottom I am replacing with 38mm which will allow you to go to 35-37th

close up on the green one.

this is the braiins controller.

it drops to 32th and up to 37th  has 4   38mm fans

It would be cheaper

If you talk parts

Epic                                                  Braiins

new controller            =   150                             110
Oem full red case       =   200    green knock off     40
chip to trick controller =    35                                35
1 s19 xp hash board   = 1000                            1000
white grill  shelf          =    15                                15
used apw3+               =    30                                30

parts costs                 = 1430                             1230

labor  maybe 1 hour a unit
design time to save on costs maybe a day or two.

I am not going to do a full mod on the apw3+ psu's costly time consuming and since these will do 35-37th and 900 watts on top end that is enough.

the epic will get 4x 38mm fans in a day or 2      it will range from 20th to 35 or 37th

the braiins is ready and is more basic  it ranges from 32th to 37th

both allow fan control and when all four 38mm fans are at 3000 rpm they cool okay at top speed of 35-37th

I am hoping to get to some cheaper gear like a basic s19 but that will likely be in May.

I have a third piece it is red with epic and is the more deluxe model.

The hashboards are from October 2023
all fans new
controls boards new
the apw3+ psu's are 3-4 years old they had two mods one is to go to 12.7 volts the other is to the cables so they fit to the s19 xp hash board.

If I make a lot it would be maybe a total of 60 of them.

9 with xps'
6 with s19 pro  110
6 with s19j pro 105
rest with various s19s

I found a way to do lower settings I can now go to 392 watts on my k-watt meter

392 watts doing 17.56 th = 22.3 watts a th.

it can go lower but I am pretty happy with these numbers.

without a doubt the epic controller and the psu/loki chip spoof make a good piece of gear.

392 watts to 800 watts
17.56 th to 33th

basically if you manually set epic controller at

freq 275mhz
volts 12.4         does not matter as the apw3++ is always set to 12.5 volts
fan    30%

you get 26.6th and 561 watts which is 2x the s9 th and 1/2 the s9 power

4x as efficient  as  that of an s9 .

at 22 or 21 watts a th and fairly quiet not perfect quiet.

the epic controller will not let me set to 20% on fans which would work .

The red model is set to go and is a very good piece of gear. note the white grill is needed with the 38mm fans on the bottom

settings for my current screen

the watts are far lower  562 on the kwatt meter

basically for a 120 volt bitcoin   miner in the 390-850 watt range

this is pretty much the best one I know of.

You could actually make a profit by simply just mining on a normal pool.

I love the Apollo
I love the usb sticks
I have a Avalon nano on the way
The bitaxe  is cool but this is simply better.

Given time I may figure a better psu allowing it to go to 40-50th

Still playing with ideas.
the psu below will go to 14.4 volts but is only able to do 960 watts

the one below is too long 250mm

https://www.mornsun-power.com/html/pdf/LMF1500-20B12.html

it would be perfect if it were about 225mm

that would be interesting to build but costly.
