Merit system is corrupted. Need upgrade with changes .

I appreciate merit system to reduce spamming from forum. Of course it was implemented for reduce spam and shitpost. Some how it's useful for forum reputation. Merit system keep role to avoid shitpost and spam. But now a days merit system become corrupted by merit abuser. You can check on reputation board. There is many thread about abuse merit system.

I appreciate them those are given merit for HQ post. But question is there is enough time to find HQ poster for merit source or merit holder? How a quality poster get attention to merit source or merit holder ?

For this reason people getting merit on shitpost. Even they are getting merit for reporting on bounty and replay for ANN. It dose not matter they are not punished for that . But are you think that bounty report can be HQ post?
I think not. So what you think if some one received 20/30/40 or 50 merit on bounty replay post. This is not call corrupt?

So what about who have make quality post and he didn't received merit ? You will find reputation section many merit abuse thread. This thread only those are caught. But there are many abuser that not yet caught. And it's not possible to find.

Vision was for merit reduce spam and shitpost. Yes it's success. But how many percent it's success? Do you think it's need to upgrade again ? I think it's important to upgrade. Otherwise a good person or quality poster can't change their rank on his life time.

The reason is this thread, even we can't stop corruption but you should consider merit system for HQ poster.

I have no much ideas how it can upgrade. But what I think , at least open a new board or section that for claim upgrade rank. So those are think he made quality post and he deserve for rank up or merit, he can apply. In a result those is merit source and merit holder, they can simply check & review their profile, they are deserve for rank up or not.

However, taking some hard actions against merit abusers will alert the abusers a lot. They won't dare to abuse merit. Merit abusers are giving silly excuses and saving their ass.

You don't need to do any of that. All you need to do is to read the threads all over the forum that offer help to quality posters, and you need to act on the advice. The board is littered with threads and post by people whingeing about the merit system, but it is significant that very few of them can actually be bothered to take the advice to improve their posting.

Your point is right. Even some one promoting scam project at the same time they also build their account rank by getting merit. So I believe this system should consider for upgrade again for fair merit system.

Honestly, I don't get this point too. Why on earth would any sensible person merit the OP of any signature campaign? Could there be anything HQ about a signature campaign OP to deserve a merit if not that they who are sending such merits  are greedy shitposters who are only out for their bellies worth and in the excitement of seeing a campaign floated (after a long stretch) splash merit on it? I think the DT members should start tagging such people for abuse.

As long as people have free will then they are going to give merit to whatever posts they like and they're isn't really anyway you can police this really as it's purely subjective. Sure, people should probably only be giving them to helpful or informative posts but a lot of users seem to be just using merit as a 'like' button, and that's usually what seems to be happening with bounty threads (or they're just trying to kiss ass so they get chosen or something). I don't think people should be wasting them on bounty threads but there's no rule to say they can't, but hopefully people will realise that doing so is mostly pointless and their merits would be better sent elsewhere.

Absolutely you can make thread, those are abuse merit system we can post there. At least some thing is better then nothing. On the other hand every body will know merit abuser to stay away give merit them. I have post myself about merit abusing. But there is no action. That's my question. Even they are not punished , no problem. But those are working hard to make QH post, at least trying. We should give them chance, so that they will be more interested to keep this forum spam free and make more HQ post.

Enlightened self-interest means that they don't consider the awards wasted, even though it is destructive to the forum. This is why I am considering creating some personal file to avoid feeding the sub-culture here.

You have been merited 4 times. That doesn't mean someone searched for HQ posts and got your post.

Finding a HQ post is not the job of a merit source. If it was a job, every quality poster would be merited. Forum is a place where different kind of people join for different purpose. People with the interest of what is happening in bitcointalk forum deserve to be a merit source, not a people who is here for earning only.
If someone has real interest in bitcointalk forum, he will definitely go through most of the HQ posts. So, of course, if something can attract his eye, will be merited.

If there's a separate thread where people can come and voice out that they're good posters and their posting history gets reviewied for ranking up, I think it will be good as it will give everyone who feels sidelined by the merit system an opportunity to atone for it.

At first I thought that the OP was addressing the problems ongoing about members and there alts cheating the system. But then I read his potential solution which is creating a new board for merit sources to see members who wants to to rank up fast. Which gives me the conclusion that it is not all about the corruption after all but about ranking up fast, he didn't brialliantly hid the fact that he is getting a hard time receiving merits while worthless ANN threads are getting dozens or even hundreds of Merits.
