I agree with the decision, please, the point of the Alt Coin section of Bitcointalk was so that you could have basic conversation about whatever coins you wanted here. Things like in depth coin support and discussion, and giveaways are far better off on their own respective coin's forum. Its getting way out of control here, and we thought that just allowing for a little bit organization would help, but the effects of incentivized posting is spamming the forum, and its spilling over to the rest of the boards. Seems like a good idea. It was getting out of control and it's encouraging them even more to create and market 1000000 new cryptos that just saturate the market... Lots of peoples, big potential, just censored. And it's a good idea ? Why not a subforum ? And what's about giving away the 6k of donations peoples did to you to get a nice forum ? Peoples asking for giveaway threads that's why there is a lot. So we gave 6k to get pulled out ? Bitcoin forum, people donated for a Bitcoin forum. Many of those people want Alt Coins gone entirely from Bitcointalk. The Altcoin section was made essentially as an off topic section, to group all non bitcoin crypto currencies in one place that is out of the way from the Bitcoin discussion. The spam is overwhelming the entire forum. Read this : )

I think people should be allowed to promote their coins and promote giveaways in any way they want. It's their coins they can do what they like. Best example was the Coinye West rap thread, that was really fun. We more stuff like that here to promote coins.

it should be moved into a new sub-forum. that's the whole point of having sub-forums. the issue is clutter, then move clutter into somewhere where it is no longer clutter

Would be great to see a giveaway-subforum, because right now some admin is locking giveaway threads without supplying a reason. It leaves people hanging and unable to communicate and promote.

we're told that 'some people' donated, and 'some people' don't want altcoins to be discussed at all on BITCOINtalk... well some people don't have to visit the altcoin threads, there is a search box and several sections for different topics already... it's about time the admins listen to MOST of the people and give us what we want, or risk losing a lot of visitors to this site... somebody pm me when the giveaways come back, I'll see you then

Never stopped the giveaways. Just hope none will get banned until theymos finds a solution.

Legitimate giveaways helped me become more interested in certain coins rather than others that have no giveaways or no potential.
I would rather see a sub category rather than censorship or the removal of the altcoin form completely.
Edit: I don't have equipment to mine GPU coins so giveaways are the only way I'm able to participate in using those particular coins
I vote to have a sub category

Announcement threads helped me become more interested in certain coins, not the spam of giveaway threads. I personally think its a good idea banning giveaways.

I think that we definitely need a subforum for giveaways. It is an excellent way to test the currencies. However, I do think that the worst scammers/spammers should be banned!

I voted for a subforum. I find it overkill to lock threads and ban people over giveaways. If giveaways are spamming the forums then why not have a subforum for giveaways? Problem solved and everyones happy.

absolutely positively 100% f*cking yes. ive posted in the other thread. really not a good idea to link giveaways from bitcointalk, it would mean if someone wants to enter a giveaway they would have to join another forum. all these coins just want to promote themselves and this could slow down cryptocurrencies going mainstream.

A subforum is definitely the way to go. If people who is not interested on altcoins find the altcoins posts a kind of spam of something worst, with a subforum the problem is solved. If the problem is a hardware or any kind or resources shortage, the first post of KeyserSozeMC on this thread is saying it all. I really don't see any relevant reason for not having an Altcoin subforum.
Cheers!

Actually for me it's yes and no. I respect the forum owners decision because I agree with their arguments.
On the other hand, this forum is the first stop for anyone interested in the wonderful world of cryptocurrency so it would be a real nice addition to all the functional information one can find on this forum. However if giveways draw too much from the sites recources then it's better, for now, to ban them.
We'll see where it goes, even I can setup a forum with my meagre IT knowledge so I bet there will be a solution sooner than later. For now it's nothing but a logistical problem. Dev's can advertise their coin here and direct interested people to their websites for a giveaway. Just like spreading hashrates over different pools I guess.
