Google Chrome Add-On Turns Your Browser Into A Bitcoin Wallet

As more than 1,200 Bitcoin community members converged on Miami Beach for the first North American Bitcoin conference this past weekend, Andrew Toth, a software engineer from Toronto, Canada, decided to put together an add-on for the Google Chrome browser that can help facilitate Bitcoin payments for new adopters of the virtual currency.

I'm not sure I'd trust a browser to store my coins to be honest.

I think its mostly for small amounts for quick tipping.

Nice product. Doesn't seem much different than kryptokit though which already has some of the biggest names in bitcoin involved with their product and some good financial backing.

Kryptokit just teamed up with bitpay to have a directory feature of all merchants (who use bitpay) easily listed to view/browse so you can shop with bitcoin. I really like what they have accomplished in such a short time.

Sorry if that takes away from this other product.  No disrespect, just trying to talk about browser based wallet extensions.

I'd trust my browser more than I'd trust an uninsured, unregulated, unaudited bank such as Coinbase, MtGox, BitStamp, etc.

I certainly recognize that there can be some issues with trusting your coins to a browser though.  If you feel that way, then you should also avoid https://blockchain.info/wallet

I'm sure blockchain.info has far better security features than a browser.

I'm sure blockchain.info has far better security features than a browser.

Then you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

The blockchain.info wallet is a wallet that runs in your browser, and stores it's private keys encrypted on blockchain's servers.

Anytime you want to do anything that requires a private key, the encrypted key is obtained from blockchain's servers and then decrypted in your browser.  Once that happens, what you have is a wallet running in your browser.

No wonder people are losing their bitcoins to hacking.
