Do you think the entertainment industry has the power to make bitcoin more valuable?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Define entertainment industry... that's a broad term that could mean  gambling, movies, video games, porn (adult entertainment) , or all of the above.

For things like music or video games where small transactions often take place such as downloading a song or making in-game purchase then yes bitcoin is an amazing thing. The same could be true for purchising single movies or tv shows or podcasts or what have you.

Already some gaming compaines are accepting bitcoin, some musicians are accepting bitcoin and I expect that trend to continue. I don't know of any  tv/movie content providers doing that yet but it seems likely they will at some point.

I don't know about making it more "valuable" but certainly if bitcoin is constantly appearing in movies or music etc etc it increases awarness.  Somehow  I doubt bitcoin being in a tv show would make someone go out and buy bitcoin....but if there was movely heavily surrounding bitcoin (the upcoming silk road movie for example) that might lead to some people looking into bitcoin more and buying some.

Not. gonna. happen. Entertainment people specialize in entertaining. They cater to existing prejudices. Teaching something revolutionary requires unlearning falsehoods and that's not fun. Cognitive dissonance and all that. It's easier to swindle a person than it is to convince a person that he's been swindled.

Bitcoin will make celebrities. Celebrities will not make Bitcoin.

I mean putting bitcoin in pop culture by movies, music, books, and etc.

The entertainment industry is great at making people feel special or temporarily occupying people's minds. It also influences people to buy things they never heard of.  It also is more than consumers.  It is the business of investing with hopes of huge returns.

A celebrity has the ability to make bitcoin a household name. Celebrities do the same for other products.

Imagine the difference it could make to the BTC price if Microsoft ditch their crappy points system and put Bitcoin processing into the Xbox One. Downloading games, music etc.

Lol they stopped using Microsoft Points last year, it is just cash now. If they did make a move like that I don't think that it would make a huge difference to their DLC revenue but it would be an endorsement of cryptocurrency and would surely give confidence to the market.

The industry (as vague as you make it sound) can somewhat help in making it more mainstream but they can't singlehandedly increase its value.

If you look, there are other threads about Bitcoin appearing in TV shows & Movies. Basically, what this does is make people aware that they exist, but does not really inform them. The result will be "Bitcoin? yeah, i heard of that."

Well the more celebrities that use it or films and TV that feature it it's free advertising for the cause, so yes, they can make it more valuable. Everytime a celebrity tweets about it you've got thousands of people who will look into it.

Anybody in Marketing will tell you that brand awareness is one of the first steps to potential success.

What leads follow on from "Bitcoin? yeah, I heard of that" is what really interests us.

mp3 market has the biggest potential for me.

Used to be that getting music recorded, manufactured, plugged and sold meant you were 100% dependent on about 12 layers of middlemen (some were vital because of the technology of the day, others were exploiting networking gaps)

Now, you can do every single part of the process for yourself. It's not going to be long before someone selling their music through their own website is going to have a massive hit that doesn't actually register on the "real" music charts, because they're outside the traditional circuit. That's what's so interesting about this, if a track has the right qualities to become popular, you can't hold back the tide.

The artist who does this first will be the first to ever make more than single digit % of the profits from their own music.

bitcoin is a currency, you can advertise the hell out of it, but until someone 'needs' it, the common consumers wont touch it, and it will be left to the investors to trade.

so stop trying to think of ways to advertise bitcoin and instead make products/services that require bitcoin that common consumers would like to use. that is how to get people to use it.

think of it this way. if your american. and you see a advert to buy euro's. ask yourself truly in your lifestyle, in your home town, in your family situation can you truly see a reason you would NEED euro's right this second to buy something tonight??

in99.99% of cases, there are no reasons. most are not going to suddenly want to go on holiday tonight to suddenly need to buy euro's and those that have already pre-planned a holiday, have also looked into euro's.

so dont think that just mentioning the currency is going to do jack all. you/we need to increase the amount of userfriendly services for bitcoin and give it more usefulness to the common consumer. and sell bitcoin on its usefulness and not simply that its another world economy that has appeared

rant and ideas.. over

any record can become huge with proper marketing.  There are several charts other than billboard that are just as important.   The majority of artist make most of their money from touring and merch sales.  Unfortunately record sales will never be what they were.  A bitcoin based concert ticket option would be amazing. Ticketmaster prices are outrageous.

Bitcoin can benefit everyone. Every business needs it.  A company could save millions of dollars in transaction fees with bitcoin versus the normal payment processing options. Why make new products that require bitcoin when common consumer products exist?  Building consumer trust is crucial to mass bitcoin acceptance.  You can have a million bitcoin products but its pointless if no one knows about bitcoins.
