I have read on a few different threads and would have to agree... that forking the most popular ones would cause the biggest chain reaction for altcoins in general.... So if you wanted to cause the most devastation, aim for those at the top of the Marketcap list.

Although it can definitely be said there are too many similar or useless coins... My feeling is that Altcoins helps to generate interest and investment.
For the same reason that penny stocks are exciting and help entice new investors into the Stockmarket... i think Altcoins do the same.

Adoption of BTC benefits from having a more stable price, because it appears to reduce the risk...

Whereas the wild and unpredictable fluctuations of Altcoins is what entices people to continue to pour money into the Cryptocurrency scene.

If someone told me that I am guaranteed to get a 10% return from investing in BTC... i would not invest even $100.
But if someone told me there was a chance at 100% or more return on altcoins, i would definitely risk $1000, even if I lose it.
And eventually that $1000 i invested, even if i lose it... makes its way around the community, and creates an economy, and eventually ends up going into BTC...


So, ok yeah, forking some shitcoin does send a message... but it will also scare away a lot of people who have money to contribute to the Cryptoeconomy... which eventually may impact BTC, and you bigger players.

How much hashpower can you guys throw at once?

Personally, I don't like the meme (Grumpycoin, kittehcoin), "famous person" coins (Cagecoin, Coinye) or ridiculous ones that we all know will never have a future (fuckcoin, swagcoin).  I wouldn't miss them if they disappeared.  I stick with the ones that have a mission behind them and might actually have some real-world long-term purpose (leafcoin, solarcoin, primecoin, possibly reddcoin) or are interesting experiments (42, huntercoin).  Not sure what to make of Ethereum yet; I couldn't join the IPO if I wanted to anyway.

Also, since I can't afford to spend fiat currency to simply buy coins, my only real plan of attack is to mine the altcoins early with what little hashpower I have, hold them, and hope they turn into something.

the main importance of these "bad" coins are that it gives exposure to this community. i would have not been here if it wasn't for bitcoin--->litrecoin----> mining--->nfinitycoin---->bitcointalk----> me spending money to buy into BTC.

here is a quick steps of how i got there..



at beginning:  

uu... bitcoin. send money to someone in the other side of the world in seconds and cost me few cents. i like it. let me read more into it.

holy shit. bitcoin was 130 when i was reading this last week. now its 230...

what .. few days later bitcoin is 300 a pop... no wait 2 hrs later its now 400 ..600.. 800... wow. people saying its going to the moon. wow.

i read more and i realize since there is no stability in bitcoin yet there is a lot of investment going on. i learn more and i find out that most of the new people missed this train. and who ever bought last year and held are in the big scale profit now.

all this new people talking about litecoin... litecoin, what is lite coin?

few weeks later. oh shoot lite coin is a copy of bitcoin but changed in hopes it will be better. uh and whats this. it is mine able easier and has better mining profit.

week later. well it says here by all this litecoin mining calculators that if i start mining now (November 2013) i might mine about 150 coins before it becomes profitable.

So i build a mining rig. i knew perfectly well that i should have just bought the coins instead. anyways i buy it. i am mining. but now i get a true feeling what mining this means. it means it should be on ..24hrs non stop and i get a miserably 1 ltc (November). well that was boring...

read some more. i find coinmarketcap i see infinity coin very low.. i want to buy.. so bad. Yes infinity coin is my ticket to becoming a millionaire. look $20 will get me 450k coins. wow.... how do i buy now.. what's this.. i need btc to trade.. i can't use cash to buy infinity coin...

well how do i buy BTC.... read on reddit.  i will need to use coinbase and wait for USD to BTC convertion ..damn coinbase price is much higher.. oh wells...so i do that. wait a week or so. get btcs 0.028 btcs ( i think) not to sure. anyways i buy all in infinitycoins.

realize buying USD to BTC is annoying. so i try to mine ltc. but that is soooooooo boring...

wtf is grandcoin?  do a Google search and i finally got to the bitcointalk forum. this is the first time i am on this site (i used to get all my info from reddit). all of the sudden i spend hrs upon hrs reading the threads. i learn about how to solo min ,set up cgminer. minard and wallets.

dimecoin thread pops up. i  mine with wallet. 1 million coins in 1 hr ... mother of god.. i get a first taste of a coin lunch. i keep an eye around. boom llotocoin and billioncoin. i mine them a bit. make a few hundred thousands coins.

mean while i am reading more. i start seeing common thread on coins. what is good what is bad. new coin pop up. catcoin. mine a hundred. then i read some more. dogecoin ? looks stupid ,, ignore. keep mining lloto and bill.

then zomg dogecoin is hot on reddit. run to mine a few thousand. stop. well this coin is easy to mine. ill mine it later. let me see what else is hot.

so i try to mine some casinocoin some neocoin some digital coin and the then all of the sudden there is a overwhelm of new coins ever day.

i must have made about 2 btc in trade and mining from all this alt coins.

therefore this coins might be annoying and will die soon but they do provide us a small time frame where we do some trades.

look at earthcoin. premined and everyone called it scam. yet it has hot right now.

I had heard stories about how childish some of the bitcoin crowd were, noses all put out of joint because other people also want to try and provide a currency solution that is actually usuable everyday and confirms in under an hour....

sure most of the alts are trash but theres also a few that are genuine attempts to provide something, Im really surprised you guys feel so threatened that you have go and destroy other peoples attempts so you feel special.

I saw the argument in another thread that its about showing how insecure these coins are but stop and think about it - they inherited that from bitcoin itself.  the only thing that protects your precious btc is the fact ghash have a moral backbone and deliberately dont take 51%.

Fork what you want if it makes your lil ePenis feel better, but quite frankly its that attitude that guarentees noone will use crypto mainstream anytime soon - why would you put money in any coin when some 12 year old having hormone adjustment issues wants to break it all?

Alt coins create intrest and money. Without that, there is no growth. With out growth and interest adapters of cryptos will be slow to non existent.

To those that support such acts need to think about what it makes it look like to the outside world that hardly understands cryptos. You do more harm than good in building confidence. On top of that what does it accomplish any ways? Epen? Wow. That gets you so much in life just like being the fucken top jock in high school... and really talk like this kinda puts you on the same rung as those folks.

Honestly, if a coin is not worth while, it will die as many have. Without any alts you really think for one minute people would mine? WTF try to mine with a single video card LTC or BTC... you aint gonna get shit, and sorry to say, money drives interest.

I'm agree with this vision. Many people is attracting by the alt-coin and not bitcoin or litecoin that without expensive mining rig don't pay very well in terms of coins or usd.

But on the other hand there are too many crap coin that are died before the release.

We don't need fork but we need only time and see who between these will survive.
