This was posted to the irc channel:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/hw8ccu

They said it was maxcoin-cpuminer compiled for Windows. I laughed but then people were saying it was working so I tested it out in a VM and it looks legit. I ran it like this:

minerd.exe --algo=keccak --benchmark

and it was getting about 1100 kh/s on my Windows 7 64 bit VM with 1 virtual cpu.

liar.

Why's he a liar?  I compiled from source optimized for AVX and get 900 kh/sec per core - it will never find anything, but it's still representative of what it will do against a wallet or pool.

I must be a liar too.

I read the source, it should auto-optimize for avx/avx2/xop based on running test instructions during compile.

max..zip is malicious, and chrome has blocked it.

People please confirm.

ive no idea how to build a cpu miner from the source but i did read from Stacey Herbrt on her twitter that the maxcoin devs will tell people what to do with it once the release is official, they released it early so when they release it officially at the launch their wont be an overload and crash the download page.

It does, keccak (SHA-3) is the algorithm MaxCoin uses. It's an nvidia GPU miner.

It does, keccak (SHA-3) is the algorithm MaxCoin uses. It's an nvidia GPU miner.

Two other coins also use SHA-3. You just can't use any SHA-3 miners.  Else why not use use the GPU miner.exe from those SHA-3 coins.

NOTE: the specific Keccak implementation differs a great deal from eCoin... Those trying the eCoin GPUminers will be in for a surprise...

This is exactly why I posted the link.
It is a freshly compiled custom build for MaxCoin's implementation of SHA-3, built by the creator of cudaMiner: cbuchner1.

why do you think they released the miner source and not a fully built miner. i think maybe so the people who know how to build it can locate any errors.

i'll have a go at compiling it. it would be good if the launch of this coin taught people a few things.  Wink
