whats that? whats the advantage of mining pools vs mining on my own? explain please You pool together for higher hashrate and higher chance of finding a block. When difficulty gets high you might not find any on your own. So, guys, Im a little embarrassed and didn't catch that this wasn't a scrypt coin when I set up the pool. Anyone know if Keccak is supported by stratum and mpos? All my pools are scrypt. Talk to https://twitter.com/LukeCrypto, I think he's working with pool operators

There are a few different ways that pools distribute the coins but yes thats the idea. You get a share of the reward based on the work your miners put in.

Poolers:
1. Have you hard anything about existing --keccak implementations of cgminer (ex: CopperLark) for Maxcoin? I'm curious if we'll need a new version of cgminer.
2. Do you know if minerd supports keccak? I've been playing around with EC2 instances getting them ready for tomorrow.
Thanks.
I am not familiar with keccak, I missed that part when setting it up. I am told though that this can be mined both with cpu and gpu via scrypt though so --scrypt will be the correct switch on max.poolers.org. If there is a special fork of stratum-mining for keccak I would be down to put that up as well.

In the case of poolers.org it is a proportional payout. Someone on the pool finds a block, then based on the shares everyone submitted for that round you get that portion of the payout. Some other pools will use modified PPLNS systems to prevent pool hopping. It makes the work you do now, pay out later down the road. It all evens out to the same if you stick around though. In the case of solo mining, you find a block and you get the whole reward. But, if net hashrate is high you might not find any blocks at all.

Nice a pool already ! Signed up Lets make this pool awesome! Just make sure to update the Getting Started section before release if possible I am told by rackaz this will be scrypt available which is what my pool is setup for so the getting started section is correct. If someone knows of a fork of stratum-mining that supports keccak I will setup both options.

It would be neat to see a 'get coins' tab on the client upon launch[such as the img of DTC client below]... that would enable a much fairer start. DTC is also CPU.

Um, how do you have a pool for a coin that has no stratum miner? WTF? Well, it has been explained but I will save you the trouble of reading the last couple pages. I flubbed and set it up thinking it was scrypt compatible. Then talked to rackaz in IRC and was told it is going to be. Then I watched people debate about whether it should or should not be. Now, I am just waiting to see what happens. TBH I dont really know whats going on, from what it sounds like there is a chance my pool may work with this coin and a chance it may not. Wait for more info from the devs.
