It's better to write name of Airdrop in the title (head) of your thread because we waste time to open this thread to know what is scam.

this is funny, only this time i heard an airdrop need private key for its requirements. we know that a private key is a password to access our wallet, so it's the same as we give our house keys to thieves.

by the way, thanks for your warning.

Not even generally speaking here, if you give out your private key you will lose your coins.  No ifs ands or buts.  Your private key is the only thing you have that proves you own the coins in a given wallet.  Give those out and anyone who has the key can take your coins.

When project, team asks your private keys, it s a scam. It s easy.
There is not a reason to ask this.

And when you participate on a bounty campaign, be careful to give your adress of wallet and not private key. It s seems funny but I know several people who gave by error their private keys, they try to change the sheet but robber stolen her tokens

Don't click on weird email or download anything, there is a high chance of getting a keylogger that will affect all your crypto wallet. And don't join any airdrop that ask you download their wallet it's not worth it anymore, it's too risky and the reward is too small.

There are a lot of thing like this, while airdrop amd bounty are gaining popularity, bad people start taking advantage of it. Some of my friends, they are new in Crypto world, and they are focused on joining airdrop, some of them fall for this faie airdrop and send their Ether private key. Some can moved their asset before its too late, while the other are not so lucky. Please be carefull guys.

An old style of scamming, you have received the email of legendary email scammers? you have to send them money first thru WU and they'll send it back to you?

Just like the logic of these scammers, if they just want to give you token, they'll give it without asking any private keys.

i think many people now know such type of scams and those who still are noobs will get lesson after loss .
bcoz private key is called private for a reason , and for just airdrop or even sale they need not our key so we should follow this tip .
i see many such mails in my spam box but i dont care so much , so just simply ignore them .

I agree. Scam is everywhere and it is hard to identify which one is a scam and which one is legit. Scammers are really smart enough to trick some of us. They used different strategies and modus operandi in order to lure and trick people.

Yes you always have to be careful if someone asks you for a private key. Pages that ask for private keys are always scam and you should never enter your key!! Only participate in airdrops where you need to complete some easy tasks.

Just add a simple rule in your email address : "If the message text contains "Enter your private key" > permanently delete the message"
(of course free emails like gmail/yahoo don't allow this)

Anyway as said many time in the answers above, when you read "Enter your private key" leave.

Yep, i also received this types of email, and good thing that i never sign up into this kind of airdrop, for now i refuse to some airdrops because of excessive scams everywhere, and airdrop is the main source of information, which i believe from the start. Whenever i read some invitation for airdrops i carefully review first if they need additional information about the wallet address., if it is, i just ignore them. Scammers nowadays are brilliant., so lets be more mindful with this.

First of all, why would you give your private keys to someone you doesnt even know. Next, if they demand something without a basis or complete information about the said project then probably its a scam. Dont trust anything including some that you received on your email. The scam is called fishing and if someone bite into the bait then kiss goodbye to what you have on your account.

A lot of emails coming from any ICO and some of them is really just a scam. Don’t give your private keys to anyone, don’t take the risk just to have $10 in exchange of you $100. Always think that this market is profitable if you work harder so don’t depend on airdrop.

The private key consists of 64 characters. 2) ETH wallet address has to be ERC 20 compatible. DO NOT use an exchange address.

scam

Its very obvious they want your private key to access your wallet this is a simple tactic and very noticeable form of scammed just be vigilant as always dont give your private key to anybody just keep it in more secure place and avoid those kind of Airdrops that required you Private keys.

I don't think anyone in his right mind will fall this scam , to give your private key away just like that , is like given your atm card and pin to a thief. Thanks for the alert and hope no one will fall for it.

My advice is for you to stop participating in those airdrops and filling it up with your personal email. It's just a trap so they can send you those phishing emails or to market their coin to you. They are also collecting emails just to spam us.

The noobs if not using their heads very well will always learn the hard way. Even if you see Vitalik's personal twitter asking you to send you private keys is pretty unreliable. Few weeks ago Charlie Lee did tweet something like an airdrop and it he ended it with an explanation to warn everybody on possible online scams.

LOL. There are so many airdrops also require MEW wallet private key from pariticpant to be able to join airdrop. LOL.
I don' think there will be anyone fall into this trap cause it's the worst way to scam other people cryptocurrency cause you just need to know wallet address to send token to other people but privatekey. LOL

fraudsters are very persistent in fraud and trap their prey, they use every means, they try to deceive everyone with different methods, I often receive incoming emails and I never respond, even though they never tire of sending them.

This is nothing new.

You are basically crazy if you end up falling for this.

Some of these scams are even more advanced however.

Suppose you have a MEW account, usually you might get an email that says "Free Airdrop, login to MEW to register" and the link is phished and the URL is something like MyEitherWallet.com and you aren't careful and paste your Private key and get scammed.

Others are basically those fake BTC forks where you need to download their Bitcoin client, and importpriv key and when you connect to the internet your BTC and BCH and all forked coins of value get stolen.

This is why there needs to be more education about the security of your coins and private key, because everyday people keep falling for these scams.

Do not do anything stupid by giving a private key, they do anything to steal your token.
some cases of token thefts by fishing methods.
save your private key and bookmark your wallet.

A lot of emails coming from any ICO and some of them is really just a scam. Don’t give your private keys to anyone, don’t take the risk just to have $10 in exchange of you $100. Always think that this market is profitable if you work harder so don’t depend on airdrop.
Some airdrop starts cheating, does not make sense.
to get 1 $ sometimes required deposit. This is crazy. besides that issue there are still many airdrop who try to cheat with various methods.
it's best to forget the dangerous airdrop chanel.

These are the most stupid and most obvious scammers and in principle are easily recognized. But some are so disguised that no analysis will help in choosing.

Asking for private key equals to scam project/bounty/airdrop experienced crypto enthusiast as well as for those who knew the basics of crypto will not going to bite this bait, however, this would be a potential threat for newbie users and investors, I wonder where and how did they get emails and information from? I heard some rumors that some projects are selling their investor's email and information most likely if the project is a scam.

Scams are everywhere. I think some people may put their private keys without thinking too much. They only look at the reward amount. sometimes if they don't have any idea what private key does, then they will give their keys to others. So it is advisable to get a proper knowledge to survive in this field.

Those who are hungry with their worthless airdrop tokens will bite on this. It's like asking a kid to give their candy to a stranger. I can't blame also those people that aren't aware of this modus.

however, this would be a potential threat for newbie users and investors, I wonder where and how did they get emails and information from?
It's either they bought the list of emails or they signed up on it.

I heard some rumors that some projects are selling their investor's email and information most likely if the project is a scam.
Doubt it if you never signed up for an ICO but you received an email.

Yes, was in deed every where but in the case of the scam issue posted by the OP only people who are lack of common sense will expose his/her private keys just for the sake of joining an airdrop because a newbie can't even do that.
