I mean look at what is going on, people in masses are join the latest campaign(ARIANNE) which pays the best users 25 USD/weekly in BTC and that is pathetic , just 0.003 BTC weekly in order for the people to just post the hell out through the forum and no wonder why I have tried to find engageful discussions yet I have a lot of difficulties to find. If we can make a dedicated area of the forum where people wearing a sig campaign can post I think we can restore the forum to a certain point of having true discussions about bitcoin in general. We are near a year ,2020 where many people think we will see a high value of it (personally I am mining the hell out to the max of my extent, have invested 25.000 EUR in mining rigs together with 3 other friends) so it would be great to see more technological discussions rather than spammy post.

There is Serious Discussion and Ivory Tower for non-spammy discussion. If you want to have a discussion in someother board, make the thread self-moderated and delete the unwanted posts. Smiley

It doesn't have to be this way--people should be able to post constructively and still participate in campaigns.  Lots of people do it.  Unfortunately people are so desperate and/or greedy, and they have multiple accounts in multiple campaigns and don't have enough time in a week to think through what they're writing.  Add to that the fact that most campaigns don't pay for local board posts, and it becomes a nightmare.  But it's the people in those campaigns that are responsible for this situation, not necessarily the campaigns themselves.

As pugman pointed out, we have two sections where there's no advertising and thus no incentive to post there, and I'm sure OP is aware of those.  I don't think a "bounty shitposting section" would help anything, nor would Theymos go for it.  That's why he created Ivory Tower and Serious Discussion, right?

It all comes down to the project developers and campaign managers.  If they stop hiring these garbage shitposters, there won't be a problem.  Aside from Theymos doing away with campaigns altogether, that's the only viable solution and it's been discussed to death.

There's still good discussion about even in 'normal' sections. Development & technical discussion is normally a pretty good place for technical discussion about Bitcoin. I don't visit the mining section often, but I imagine there's a few decent discussions going on in over there. Bitcoin Discussion has currently been lost to spammers, but hopefully we can fix that.

I find Ivory Tower is free from all disturbance. The reason is, only a certain level of members only can hangout there. My understanding is, once a member reaches to Full member then s/he (not all case) has much knowledge and experience about the environment. I have seen spammy posts in the Serious Discussion quite often.

Is this a concealed sneaky campaign thread for the ARIANNE campaign?  Grin Tongue

Despite all the shitposts all over the forum boards, i still see a lot of good topics with very high quality posts. The key is just to choose what to read; It is very important to know whom of the writers to listen to, and who is not worth even reading and i find the trust/merit/ranks systems are quitly helpful to always find what does really merites to be read.

You're talking about signature campaigns and how everyone's rushing to join some and then spam around, yet you're in the signature campaign that pays something low just as well?  Huh I just can't take you seriously, that means you're spamming as well..?

There are spammers yes, but what does signature have to do with normal discussions? tbh when I'm reading posts, I don't even see signatures if I'm interested in posts.

For me, creating a new child board only just for spammy signature campaign participants is not absolutely necessary because doing so means tolerating them from such acts. Merit system is already enough, if they will continue creating spam posts thes so be it, I'm sure that they will soon realize that their doings are meaningless making them feel unmotivated (because they can't rank) and will push them later up to just leave the forum by themselves with nothing. And besides I'm pretty sure that mods are taking action about this so relax, what you can do is to report spammy/shitty posts to give some help.

Anyway, if you want to talk about technical stuffs then go to "Mining" or "Development and Technical Discussion". I'm sure you could find a lot of interesting threads there.

I try my best to not shitpost but I am not against signatures, all I am saying is a dedicated space to post for only people wearing a signature would bring back same discussions as in Alternative Clients and Technical Discussion almost everywhere in other sections. If this will not be done good luck against the army of shitposters here, although many Dt members are doing a great job to point them out it is a lost war since in the beginning because you are not fighting the phenomena. That was the point of my post.

You need to differentiate between posters with paid signatures, and posters with signatures promoting personal projects.

You want an area just for shitposters to shitpost in? If there was only one board where sig campaigners can post then it would defeat the allure of sig campaigns and they would cease to exist because they would be just advertising to nobody other than other shitposters who all they care about is spamming. As I've been saying for years, punishments or restrictions need to be handed out to people who don't run their campaigns properly if at all. If this happened then things would quickly change around here but as long as campaign managers can get away with paying anyone to post rubbish then they'll just sit back and collect their paycheck month after month whilst doing the minimal amount of work.

What you suggest is nearly impossible to implement because after the punishment of some managers some other will come in and this would be an endless neverending loop. I agree that if we limit this then the risk is pretty high for signatures to stop existing so maybe I am suggesting something too extreme. In such case we need more boards like Ivory Tower.

Why? You can discuss what ever you want in Ivory Tower. We don't need to over complicate things. Restrictions need to be put into place, and I'm usually against restrictions. But, it does need to happen if we are going to control the current system. I think implementing a rank based restriction in the bounty section for creating threads is a good way to go. This could then work in conjunction with the above suggestion by hilariousandco. Which would mean there wouldn't be a endless loop of bounty managers as they would be banned/punished whatever, and would have to rank up their accounts to do it again.

Having a rank based restriction sounds good. Instead of allowing almost anyone to be qualified to manage a campaign, there should be some control over it otherwise the shitposting/spamming will just continue. If that is implemented, some day bounty managers will be limited. IMO, the Ivory Tower already suffices and there’s no need to open up more boards. The forum is not a total loss - there are still a few threads worthwile reading with a few constructive posts here in there but it’s a needle in a haystack.
