Hello guys,

I am rather new to this forum and still pretty much in the learning phase of all rules and regulation and general know hows.

When going through other members I have seen some members who have high activity levels but are not in the usually designated position that corresponds to their level of activity.

To be more clear, I saw one member having a activity level of 96 but still a junior member! Can someone explain or provide me with a link which explains this? Tried looking but failed to so :-(.

Thanks a lot

Now you also need merit to rank above Jr. Member.

Usually, if you see a member with tons of posts and activity but no merit, he is probably a spammer who doesn't contribute to the forum.

Read: Merit & new rank requirements

Is that a completely fair statement tho? I see you registered 2015, I'm a rather new member, but didn't old members at some point get free merit,
which would make it much easier to have a better ratio Tongue there is surprisingly many high ranked members who seem to be just another spammer.

I like to chat here alot so I'll always get my activity points, however, merit is much more difficult to come by.
I do generally try to write good posts and contribute to discussions and help people, not really for chasing merit (I don't think I'll reach 100 anyway, seems very distant  Cheesy).

I mean, having 10 merit and 200 activity doesn't seem too unusual? I'm at 435 posts currently but only 16 merit.
Unless you ment specifically zero merit, zero merit and alot of posts is probably a bad sign  Shocked

Since the merit system was introduced, I already received 126 merits.

Yes, I am Sr. Member already because I'm a old member. But so far, I've received almost 1 merit/day.
(The merit system is 129 days old, I got 126)

This means that with this rate, I would have become a Sr. Member in 250 days since my registration. Just 10 days more than how long it took to get Sr. Member since I registered my account 3 years ago.

Not receiving merit is no excuse, mainly if you are the type of user that made 500 posts and have almost no merit (E.g: I've seen some users with 600 posts and 0 merit, which is ridiculous).

I like to chat here alot so I'll always get my activity points, however, merit is much more difficult to come by.
Posts in SMT (Spam Mega Threads) will not get any merit. There is simple too many pages of redundant and repetitive answers. Other than the other spammers going there to pretend they are having a conversation, no one is seeing those posts.

I do generally try to write good posts and contribute to discussions and help people, not really for chasing merit (I don't think I'll ever reach 100 anyway).
I really don't chase or care about merit (I already have a "good enough" rank), and I already got many.

I mean, having 10 merit and 200 activity doesn't seem too unusual? I'm at 435 posts currently but only 16 merit.
You post a lot of SMT on the Altcoin Discussion board (you post there and 10 seconds later your post gets burried with tons of shitposts). This doesn't necessarily means that you are a shitposter, since most of yours posts aren't going to be read by a merit source (too much spam).

Unless you ment specifically zero merit, zero merit and alot of posts is probably a bad sign  Shocked
It is. Those type of users are without a doubt spammers.

thank you for a thorough response,
oh I didn't know that it was only 129 days ago. You must be posting well for the merit then Cheesy
well, I see what you're saying and I know what you mean about altcoin discussions as in general it moves really fast,
but there are some interesting topics that appears sometimes, however it's difficult to communicate as noone really seems to read (my) posts Cheesy
Serious Discussion, Politics and such seem like the better categories, I've posted a bit and it's rewarding(in terms of conversation) but other posters cover the subjects really well so generally I just end up reading!

Oh well, not trying to excuse my posts or something, I know I'm not always writing the best posts but I try not to write <generic response> but again, noone really seems to read.
In the end I'm primarily here to learn/discuss at this point, I'm happy as a member Cheesy although I should probably explore some more categories instead of always reading the same ones.

anyway take care  Grin

Since the beginning of this year , new rules have been added to the activities , that is the merit system. Each rank has a specific merit to be obtain from others who comment on your post. Until you have got merit, there isn't anyway you can move to different rank.

Nah, I would not necessarily agree with you on that. People without sMerit is not always spammers. I have been helping some friends to post constructively and they have hardly received any merit for their posts. Merit is given based on people's perception of what value your contribution has added to them or the forum.

As time goes by, most interesting topics has been discussed on here, so it is becoming more and more difficult to come up with something new and innovative to post.

It will be more difficult for newbies to add value with their limited knowledge on the subject. So they will have to do much more research to be able to contribute something constructive and something that people would want to award sMerit.

If you have limited knowledge, then I would suggest that you give your time by doing the "dirty" work that others do not want to do. <Calculating stats and valuable data that takes time>

Suprise me, its only 129 days for merit system. Merit system was introduced just before my registration few days and I didn't notice that until few months later  Cheesy
As my english grammar isn't good and my contribution isn't quite quality post. I think I will stuck in Jr.Member until the end  Cheesy
Good luck guys !!! Make high quality post, high rank you will get.

Don't see the reason to chase merit.
I just like to search through the threads and pick up the ones I like, in technical terms, I'm not too qualified, but sometimes can help with trading advices or opinions, merit will come in the end)) more info I learn here, better answer I can give

Very clear, this is all Because of the new rules about merit. You have many activities without merit Will result in your account jr. Member until you have 10 merit. Similarly for member accounts, full members, etc all depend on the amount of merit that is owned. You can read the link thread about merit Which has been given by tryninja.

You didn't need merit if your activity more than 30 to get JR. Member, but if you want to be member on this forum, your should do consctructive posts which can be merited

Some people who have generally pretty low activity have received their high ranks in the past, when bitcointalk had different rules as there were far less people here. Now it is considerably harder to move past Jr Member, you need to actually contribute in a meaningful way regularly! That's what I figured out

minimum 30 activity and maximum unlimited activity can stay on a jr member. If you want to go another membership then you have to get merit with activity rank. If you have merit and activity rank then you can achieve upper rank according to merit and activity rank.

You will also need merits to be able to rank up, not only activity points. It is a lot harder to get merits opposed to getting activity points because for merits you need to post high quality posts not just anything like some of you do to achieve activity points. You need 10 merits to rank up to the next level.

I've just added a page describing the merit system on my blog. Maybe that will help to clarify things. The link is here -
https://talkmerit.com/the-source/index.php/articles/the-bitcoin-talk-merit-system

I've been criticised for describing merits as medals and credits. If you get a chance to read the article, I'd be grateful if you could comment on this method of describing the system.

I can relate what you post, I have activity levels that is more than the activity points needed for junior member. Rank starting above jr. member need merits to rank up. If a member doesn't have enough merits won't rank up and will be stuck at jr. member. This will help you with the ranks and merit system, Just read this topic provided by TryNinja. There are other threads like that in Meta Board, try the search feature too. I started using search not long ago.

Merit now is always a hot topic even though the system is still relatively new to be applied , it should be for ranking up the account in this forum. I currently do not find a merit, but still to learn and sharing in this forum. However the merit is a motivation for me to improve my capability for learning and sharing here, how to share good knowledge for others benefit by absorbing or learning from others to improve myself.
