The very first milestone for virtually every bitcoin web service would be a login/user management system.

I thought it would be nice to have an open source, "peer-reviewed", off-the-shelf system that you could just drop into your project and be reasonably sure that there are no major screwups there. And we all know how badly this is needed Smiley

Now, is there such a library already?

Maybe some other (not-bitcoin-related) off-the-shelf library? (googling for it right now)

The problem is that for this library to be easily reviewed it should be small and simple, but yet usable, extensible and flexible to support various types of web services.

I'm not even sure such library is feasible...

Any ideas?

Guildminers uses IPB Forum Software to handle user login and management.  It's mature, fully featured and compatible (via cookies) with our frontend - it also allows login via Facebook, Twitter and OpenID.

Of course, the largest open source login system is OpenID (http://openid.net/) but I'm not sure if it has any management system - it would probably need to be tied into your system.

About OpenID - I am not so sure it's such a good system.

As I understand it (correct me if I am wrong) - every page load requires contacting a third-party server, right?

So it is a) slower, b) less reliable, c) less anonymous - for example, I wouldn't use my main google account for any of bitcoin services.

So you would like a centralized but anonymous service?

I don't want a centralized service for logins Smiley I want a drop-in PHP library.

And it seems to me that OpenID is probably not the best choice for bitcoin services.

simplest option is to use WP and such depending on what kind of user management you need.

Ok, nobody seems to need that. So I will just write it for myself and won't make it public.

I wonder, what is it that you need guys?

Another bucket shop? A roulette? Or a program to find drugs and CP easier?

Maybe another Ponzi scheme... These proved to be popular in all times  Grin
