[SOLVED] R9 280X Dropped from 710kh/s to 80kh/s

Hello,

So this is a very strange one..

I have 6 GPU's all running fine for nearly a month hashing at 710kh.

I had a windows update issue, and driver update etc. It caused some BSOD's etc and would fail after only a few hours.
Once I had cleaned up the mess I had 5 cards drop to 80kh/s where they were once 710kh/s!
That forced my hand to reformat, fresh Win8.1 Pro, drivers back to the way it was a month ago.
When I went to start mining again, I suffered the issue again.
5 Cards @ 80kh and 1 card @ 710kh/s



Has anyone suffered this?

Any troubleshooting tips?

So I've since uncovered that the cards are throttled to 500mhz on the core and 150mhz on the memory.

Not sure why they've capped themselves.

Anyone had this before? How can I bring them back to life?

No overclocking app works. They're just stubbornly stuck at 500mhz

Should be driver problem, I have this problem too, sometimes my ASUS DC2 card acts the same as yours..

I had this problem as a result of a driver problem but it wasn't that simple.

I was getting driver crashes because of low quality PCIe risers with weak connections.

If you get a driver crash as soon as your PC is booted, you need to start eliminating cards until it doesn't crash any more.

Bad risers can cause boot/post/driver problems and are extremely hard to diagnose.

Typically if you have recurring problems after successful/clean software installation you need to start looking at your hardware.

The 500mhz cap [80kh/s] was removed when I plug a monitor into the cards.

I only have to plug it in for a second or so before moving the DVI cable into the next card. This removed the 500mhz cap and it was back to full speed again.

Once I have plugged into each of the 6 cards. I got back to 4.26mh/s

I'm off to buy some resisters to build some homemade dummy plugs.

Perhaps you don't need them. Google "Disable ULPS"

Based on quick learning of what that is, it makes sense to disable it.

I'll try in the morning and report back.
