Business Recycling Old Mining Gear

Would there be any way to create profit recycling old asic miners?  I can see the VALUE it would bring to the community in perception, mining is often portrayed as wasting electricity and hardware.  If recycling were somehow profitable, we could eliminate 1/2 of that problem entirely.  Miners would be paid for their old gear, then that gear would be broken down into useable parts or recycled in some other method and sold to a company.

sending a unit to be broken down to reusable materials would be loss in profit due to delivery. but lets think about people who want second hand usable miners to continue mining.

the cost of delivery for an avalon miner to deliver it to this so called recycling centre would be X

the recycling company would then want to sell the unit at a price lower the a new technology miner, lets call it Y

now we have to add on the delivery charge of this secondhand miner to the next owner. z

now do the maths.. there is not much profit in this.

what i do see as more profitable is for current bitcoin miners to sell their old units on ebay, direct to buyers. so if anything i would suggest making a replica of ebay, and not try a warehouse storage business of second hand units.

infact grab the code for bitmit. and give bitmit a rebirth as your own brand where people can sell LEGITIMATE (not drugs) on the site using bitcoin.

Most modern countries already recycle obsolete/broken hardware, so the market already exists.

The prices one could achieve working small-scale are way below even cheapest shipping costs so as far as I know, there is literally no way to make a profit just focussing on old mining gear or setting up similar small projects.
Just use the existing recycling infrastructure and be happy at least the precious metals as well as some iron, zinc, copper etc. components are being regained while the more toxic substances get taken care of (and hopefully not shipped to 3rd world "recycling" by some shady company).

The used (still-working) small components are extremely cheap asian bulk components, picking them out for re-use is absolutely unprofitable (and actually not desired by the whole industry which needs to sell their product lines). It's also a logicistal nightmare using such cheap 2nd hand/refurbished micro-components due to required quality testing etc., absolutely noone of size would buy and implement those in new products.

The only profitable recycling companies are either state sponsored/supported by law or those that have very large bulk handling capacities.

Perhaps this sort of project could be done to improve the image of bitcoin, to have one less argument against it out there in the world.   IT would be a non-profit I guess, you could call it minecycle or something like that.  Would be good pr.

Yeah good idea, but to create a non profit organization you need some funds. You would probably have to gather those through donations. Most people would just throw their miners to a bin, or keep as a reminder, instead of paying you to recycle.

There are some states that have a recycling law for a greener and clean community; however it is sad to know that some opportunists took advantage from this law. States of Maine and California lost millions per year because of this recycling bill where scammers unlawfully cash in recyclable containers. The other day, for the sake of good publicity for Bitcoin miners, which is the topic of this thread in general, I saw in a glossy magazine a large bitcoin miner stationed in Greenland, who plans to use hydrogenerated electricity, and of course get rid of waste heat by nature of the cold climate there.  Forget the name of the mining outfit.
