My team is working on a project and for the past few months I have received emails and calls from ad brokers representing crypto publishers asking if I'd like to advertise my project using display ads.

Is this a good idea? Anybody else get these emails? What should I look for in a good broker/exchange/publisher before purchasing ad space?

I would be very careful, most emails I get from people looking to sell me advertising space are looking to make a quick buck and fill their pockets with my btc!

If your product is good and useful for people then word of mouth and good feedback should get you a long way.  In general I have never clicked on any ad offered from bitcointalk or any exchange broker or crypto website, even from my own forum I ran for number of years etc.  People just in general dont like ads and you should not be forced into buying ad space.  a few posts on here and threads dedicated to the project and support or anything else will get you exposure and get you in touch with your user base and future clients etc.

One broker has said that my ads will be displayed before I send over any payment.

They sound desperate for the ad revenue.

If it is going to cost you a lot to put it advertised on there then maybe consider it but what is their webpage ranking? how many hits their site have? what level of exposure and ultimately new business you expect to generate from the advertising?

How much would it cost to advertise on here bitcointalk or say reddit and what do you think the return on the advert would be then?

Hope this helps,
