Good day to you wherever you are from. New here?

I've made this post as I think if you are new to crypto/Bitcoin, its MASSIVELY important to get this message across.

It may seem obvious to some people, but i know people involved with crypto who this has affected directly, and i don't wish it upon ANY of us here...

The simple fact is- PEOPLE ARE ACTIVELY TRYING TO STEAL YOUR MONEY! and we all need to be aware of the basics just so we do not fall victim to scammers, cheats and thieves.

What can you do to protect yourself? I have made a list of BASIC FUNDAMENTALS of protecting yourself if you are new to this space and I would advise you to follow them to be on the safe side, and help to avoid potential heartache.

  • Make a brand new Email account/accounts for everything crypto related. I advise an email like protonmail which i use and it is super encrypted to keep you extra secure.
  • If something seems too good to be true- it probably is!ETH giveaways DO NOT EXIST! As silly as it may seem to some, other people are falling for this everyday and if you are new to crypto which a lot of people are everyday- hence the reason there are more and more of them on a daily basis
  • Be old fashioned- WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN-buy a diary/journal and back up all of your passwords login details down OFFLINE, plus in the event of hard drive failure, this could be your saving grace!
  • Use 2FA (two factor authentication) on anywhere you can that is Crypto related, this is an extra layer of security that will make it harder for people to access your details. Google Authenticator is so easy to set up and its free!

A lot of what I have written here may seem basic, but we have people from all walks of life and backgrounds here, so i think a reminder to everyone won't do any harm.

I will edit this thread if you think there are any fundamentals missing, and appreciate your feedback. Have a great day!  Smiley

If we are talking about security in www, you should be aware of phishing attacks, you NEED to be always aware is your connections is secure. HTTPS should be used always There are many add-ons for each of available browser which will forcefully redirect you to https version of site you visit.
  • Never reuse same password in multiple registration forms.
  • Turn off auto-fill for pages if you have stored at least 1 time your credit/debit card number. There has been incidents where there are hidden fields to gather those codes.
  • You should schedule an time interval when you change passwords on all sites.

Excellent advise for password creation - https://xkcd.com/936/

As you've said this is really basic, but, honestly, I think some seniors usually forget how important the basics are, so this is important to inform others about this kind of stuff.
I merited you for a well-constructed topic, informative and humble, and also because before meriting, I gave a quick look at your posting activity and you seems to write only where you find you have something to say,  One advice: avoid megathreads if you can, I mean replying in posts with more than 20 or 30 replies, or read all the replies first, if the post has been answered enough, then I encourage you to stay away.
Nevertheless, most of your answers are humble and informative, and anyone can notice that you are not here just by begging or earning or writing a single line hoping a reward.
Congrats. I'm honored I gave you your very first merit, let's hope it to be the first of many.

Thanks very much for that SEOincorporation!  Smiley and to Jet Cash too! Very much appreciated. You are right on the money when you mention how important the basics are. Oddly enough, i think its in the beginning where this is overlooked as people are rushing in and trying to get set up as quickly as possible and that's where mistakes originate. If you're going to do something- do it the right way. Especially when it comes to money!  Shocked

I also appreciate your feedback too, and again you are right, I only comment where I feel I have something to say or offer. I don't profess to be a guru as there are people here waaaay more experienced than myself!  Grin

In my short time here, I have really enjoyed it, I have learned a lot more than I thought i would actually, and my intention was never set out to fish for merit, merit has to be earned and I am glad you thought my post was worthy.

Jajaja it also applies for merit!!!

I will keep an eye on you, for you are a rare specimen in here!!! Well, then, welcome, and thanks for the useful thread. One of the points you've mentioned is too important, and most of the users (included me on the beginning) forget about that: to create a new email account, non-related to your personal others and to use it only to the crypto... Gold rule, mate!

Nice first post but just to add: always have antivirus / firewall enable with update. If you have any crypto data on your hard disk / USB key, encrypt it.

Add this:Using password manager like Lastpass is the best way to generate a secured password each of your account. With your secured password, you can make your account safe without a hack into your accounts.

To add to the list:
Avoid leaving your assets on exchanges as they can fail without notice.
Do not give out your private keys to anyone or sites, if you've already done that create a new wallet and transfer your valuable assets.
