If you send someone with "lots of GPUS", presumably using hashcat to re-discover your wallet passphrase, how can you make sure that if/when the person finds it:

1. He or she won't tell you

2. He or she will transfer out the full amount to their own wallet - what incitement does the successful cracker have to send you 50%?

Outsourcing wallet password cracking is typically not a great idea, unless you trust the person doing the job 100%, so take care dude.

I would contact WalletRecoveryServices. They seem to be the most trustworthy in this space, and are often recommended. This is their bitcointalk profile. Generally, they only take 20% of the BTC if it's a success, and nothing they fail to recover.

Do you have any ideas of the password? Is it all numbers?

Then your only options are:

1. Try using something like btcrecover or JohnTheRipper or HashCat to bruteforce the password
2. Try using a professional service (like WalletRecoveryServices as mentioned by DarkStar_) to bruteforce the password for you
3. Accept defeat and wave good bye to 1 BTC

There is no way to magically unlock a wallet file. If you don't remember the password... bruteforcing is the only option left to you for recovery.

I'd say 3. is not an option 
Before accepting such a defeat, 1. and 2. should definitely be tried. I'd personally never delete such a wallet.. it may be crackable in 10 years due to better hardware and eventually a flaw in the wallet :>

OP, if you do have a 'list' of old passwords or if you do have a certain kind of 'pattern' which you frequently use, the recoveryservice might be very promising.
It seems this service is very successfull in restoring wallet passwords from user who don't remember the password, but provide a list of possible combination.


Do you remember how long your password was? Or at least how long it could be at the most?
This heavily determines how 'easy' it is to bruteforce such a password.

Two more ideas:

1. Give it more time, you may remember the correct password. The brain is strange and you can't tell what can trigger the memory. Since it's a long time hold you may have tried a more complicated password than the usual ones.
2. Did you try the passwords with caps lock on? Num lock off? Maybe you have used a keyboard with wrong layout without taking notice? (iirc German has Z and Y switched)
