It is gaining popularity and is being mentioned on a lot of media sources now. Joe Rogans podcast mentioned dogecoins in an interview with Andreas Antonopoulos last week multiple times. If the community behind it keeps tipping people with the dogecoins in mass and spreading the knowledge of what a cryptocurrency is it might get a lot of people interested through word of mouth. If anything a lot of people are trying to drive the prices temporally down to benefit by slandering all the good news.

I used to like it doge, but it's getting on my nerves now. It has the potential to change from the most loving coin to the most hated coin.

There are a lot of dogecoins with a lot more still to come.  It has attracted tremendous infrastructure and looks like it may be a survivor of this most recent altcoin flood.  However, reRaise has a good point, it seems to have an increased risk of flaming out (e.g. if the dump back to 20 satoshis ever comes) and becoming the Britney Spears of coins.
