Solar power isn't free.

Slow down with the new threads every time you get an "idea". Think about what you are trying to say and write coherent posts so the community has some idea what you are talking about.

Perhaps do some searching and see if your "ideas" have already been discussed.

Simple. It means that mining hw which would normally have a negative profit for those who pay for electricity, are profitable. This added mining power decreases the profitability of the other miners, and the market reaches equilibrium, as this is the only thing a market can do.

For one thing, it still isn't free. You need equipment and must invest time. There is a cost to such things.

However, now that I've answered the obvious, I will now take a moment to be a dick and tell you that if this isn't as obvious as 2+2 you should probably stick to participating in the consumer side of the economy.

Uberlurker. Been here since the Finney transaction. Please consider this before replying; there is a good chance I've heard it before.

Are you asking about the effect on the economy if there was such a thing as free electricity? Well, for one thing, you could set up a gigantic desalination plant to supply virtually unlimited fresh water to third-world countries, and use the leftover water to irrigate farmland and literally end hunger forever. And here in the first world, virtually every industrial process would be made orders of magnitude cheaper, resulting in cheaper consumer goods and reduced unemployment. We also won't be dependent on foreign oil, potentially bringing stability to the Middle East. Basically, the lives of everyone on the planet would be about a million times better than they currently are.

The fact that none of this has happened is a clue that there is, in fact, no such thing as free electricity.
