I have seen a lot of those even 6990 for sale in Alibaba, but they require quite huge volume minimum of 100 each or sometimes 1000.  Maybe for those who are using a lot of such graphic cards, we can join together and order a batch (for me I just need 3 or 4  Smiley ).  But I had never deal in Alibaba before, not sure how reliable the China sellers are.  Anyone tried?

That's quite a large order to gamble, especially when even the major retailers have had trouble finding these cards.

They also assembly just about every computer component in the world in China.

Which makes it easy for them to counterfeit.

You could counter fit a gpu with a false bios but once you put it under load it'd be evident enough(the exception being counterfit quadro cards geforce>quadro via bios but even they don't work 100% like a real quadro) a simple one to pull off would probably be a 5830>5850 flash visually they're similar and if it was clocked proplerly it could perform at the same speeds as a stock 5850 although anyone trying to overclock it would notice right away when there was no headroom left

"If we don't hang together, by Heavens we shall hang separately." - Benjamin Franklin

If you found that funny or something i said useful i always appreciate spare change

So are you afraid your graphics cards in your computer right now are counterfeit?

I mean how exactly do you counterfeit a GPU?

Because I buy from reputable dealers. If I found out it was counterfeit (which wouldn't be that hard), I would send it back and they would refund me without a hassle.

Of course, this doesn't happen because part of being a reputable dealer is not buying counterfeit items in the first place.

What I have bought that was counterfeit:
Oakley Sunglasses (Mall)
Oakley Boots (Online Store)
SD Cards (Haji Mart)
Golf Clubs (Ebay)

and probably a couple other things... plus I few I knew were counterfeit before I bought them, but didn't care. (like shiny watches! ha!)

Electronics are the second most counterfeited item in China.

Actually China produces our Ipads, Iphones etc, so I won't doubt the graphic cards.  But I and my friends had too many bad encounters with their vendors.  You really need to know the vendors in China well.  There are good ones but there are tons of rotten ones.  I prefer to trust WOM.  So if any other members have experience dealing with a vendor or two, I rather get the contact or maybe we can buy in bulk together.  I won't dare to buy alone dealing with an unknown vendor from China.

1. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_binning

2. Never buy graphics cards from unauthorized resellers.

I dont think a gpu needs refurnishing, unless you are moving into your PC.

and most likely a lot of these are simply bad cards that didnt pass quality control testing

it probably is not counterfeit at all.  Most likely it's an "illegal" run on same production/assembly lines.  or maybe these are slightly outside of quality control specs by AMD?  They may work for some time just fine, but could fail at a higher rate than "good" cards...

This seems like a good deal:
http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/121274789/HIS_H699F4G4M_Radeon_HD_6990_4.html

FOB Price:    US $ 290 - 330 / Unit
Minimum Order Quantity: 10 Unit/Units

I have little doubt anything is wrong with those cards, but I have no idea how sure you can be you will ever receive them.

idontknow

Refurbishing would make more sense.
