What is the absolute minimum connection speed that would be required for a bitcoin mining operation?

i know a few people who have used their 3g phone as a back up for when their dsl/cable internet is down. you don't need very much to run mining, but i would avoid dial up since u would get a lot of stales shares. Also the block chain is getting closer to 1gb so it wouldn't be fun if u had to install the bitcoin client on that system, and having to wait for the chain to be updated. Either way any ISP other then dial up should be just fine.
