That subforum has just exceeded every other forum combined in the amount of verbal assault, arguments, trolling, threats to bitcoin and altchain security, and has now devolved into Solidcoin vs. Non-solidcoin. I propose to archive all the discussions there, and require alt-chains to be in the Off-Topic section.

It's all about the game, and how you play it

Let them keep their sandbox otherwise they'll make a mess out in the rest of the forum

1) Agreed

2)  Lots of folks are prone to getting scammed.  There are lots of gullible and scheming people in the world, both out to make a quick buck.  Even if it's less efficient, I'd rather a rowdy few over a scammed bunch.

3) Because of the amount of activity in the Alt-Currency forum, and thanks to Lolcust for his GG, a potential Bitcoin exploit has been uncovered - which can now be fixed.

3 Reasons to leave it as-is.

I do support alt-chains, but not this forum. Tell them to go to solidcoin forum or something.

Oh, I 100% agree once an alt-currency is 'up and running' then it should migrate (which SC has).

But it needs to be there so new ones can come about (like GG).

Most of the aggressiveness is from shady activities which simply can't be ignored.  Let's face it - the 'cryptocurrency' crowd has a hefty amount of tinfoil hatters, many of which can easily be manipulated.  Mix that with the 'opportunity to be an early adopter' with an alt chain, and you got a scam-magnet. There are certainly trolls on every side, but closing the subforum would only move the volume to another subforum.

If the subforum was removed, they would really just do it everywhere else on the forum, whether it was allowed or not. Keeping it in the subforum makes it easy for people who don't care or dislike it to ignore it.

Okay then, I'm fine with this as long as the owners don't care.

The whole alt cryptocurrency section seems to be a troll den...  I try to moderate it, but usually when I see a report the thread is full of crap and I don't have the time to go through it all.  Seems to help keep the rest of the forum a little cleaner.

It's because of this that I've had to moderate much more harshly over there. The weird part is that it seems to work... for about a day. Prior to today, the posts there were great the last two days. I had almost never received as few post reports as I had the last few days (other than today, of course). That makes it clear to me that the problem is just a few users. We need to find them and ban them.

That'd probably be very good for Solidcoin - over there the owner of the Solidcoin forum can (and from what I can tell does) delete comments that contain inconvenient facts and opinions. It probably wouldn't be so good for Bitcoin; people might start thinking that the other chains were a credible alternative.
