Yes there are a lots of people will help you here to understand the difference between altcoin and bitcoin....  But bitcoin and altcoin is both cryptocurrency.....  We call it cryptocurrency because we cant truly seen it....  It is virtual....  Bitcoin is another type of coins....  Usually people use it because it has more value than altcoin.... And bitcoin is the mother of cryptocurrency.... Alstcoin will not emerge if bitcoin is not popular....  Altcoin is another form of coins....  It has a different value but they are crypto also....  Some people buy bitcoin than altcoin because it has a great potential....  And you will really earn here....  But even though altcoin is starting but it has a potential also especially today....  I hope you... cryptocurrency is the general name for all blockchain based product.Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency,ever other coins or tokens are alternative to bitcoins or altcoins

Cryptocurrency is a collective name for every digital tokens that are used as a currency or having monetarily value.
Bitcoin is one of them and to the context of this forum, every cryptocoins except bitcoin are altcoins (alternative to bitcoin)
But Ethereum won't be called an altcoin in it's own forum.
