so I just came across this website which is like cex.io, but it mines scrypt-based coins and you can buy khash/s with BTC.

Reason 1:  If you go through cloudhashing then they get a commission.  If you do it yourself then they get nothing.

Cloud hashing doesn't give you the trouble of electricity, noise, setup and maintaining.

We mine the most profitable coins, at the moment deposits are only handled in BTC. We will have an update hopefully tomorrow where the user will be able to choose wich coin to mine and be paid out in that coin.

The rates are updated every minute, since scrypt coin mining profitability is very unstable the rates vary a lot throughout the day, at the moment it is showing a ROI in ~180 days.
