Please have a read from Post #483/Page 25 onwards of the link below.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=438150.msg4896459#msg4896459

My posts were trying to discover the purpose of alt coins.

When I saw the comment below I was quite shocked.

"Quoted by yatsey87 - Newbs and people who want to make a quick profit care. They don't give a shit about cryptocurrency or what it can achieve or represent, they just want to get rich quick. "

I have always believed that BTC was trying to make a better world.

If people involved in BTC have the same perception as our friend's comment above, there is not much future for BTC.

Some people think the US dollar is for giving to charity and some people think the US dollar is payment for murder.

There are lots of people involved in cryptocurrency. Many have different perspectives than others.

The parasitic day traders are always around the alt coin scene.
Then there are those who use alt coins to "mine bitcoins" because mining bitcoin directly isn't easy anymore.
Then there are those who feel alt coins are a good testing ground for future bitcoin features.
None of this amounts to a hill of beans for the success of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin will succeed.  Its past the point of speculation in that regard.

Besides a few alt coins that are really different from Bitcoin in the way they work, most alt coins are indeed used for getting rich quick. There is no other reason why there should be a few hundred alt coins. People are so gullible. Sad

I've posted many times why I believe some alt-coins have tremendous value for the cryptocurrency community, so I won't do it now. I will say the people only trying to make a quick profit were anticipated and are even necessary. By continuously flooding the market with coins of low value they make the ones with real value stand out and be viable. That's the reason Litecoin, for example, has a half billion market cap despite there being at least 30 other clones and 50 plus alts by now.

I would remind you many people to this day think Bitcoin is a scam.

At some point though that probably doesn't matter. I think Bitcoin has reached that point, and so has Litecoin.

At least Bitcoin doesn't have dozens of security, reseller, and bitcoin miner hosting outfits all attached to some vaporware bitcoin miner hardware supplier backed by a myriad of pseudonyms, each vetting one another. Oh, wait! Let me try this: At least Bitcoin doesn't have...

Altcoins have their use. It is a great way to test out new features. PPC is showing some promising new features that have set it apart in my mind. They also help support BTC, like how other precious metals support gold.

I'm pro altcoins. I think BTC is the only one that's reached the point to be taken seriously as a currency. As it gains more and more acceptance, I believe we'll see LTC follow suit. Once you have two commonly accepted cryptocurrencies, the entire industry will be secure and altcoins will start becoming increasingly attractive.

There are many Fiat currencies. Why harp on more than one crypto?

Oh the horror of it all.

Actually, when it comes to data mining, some folks are seduced by the glamour of it all.
