Hi everyone, I am a newbie and I am wondering how to gain trust on this site?

Do deals with or pay money too people who are on the default trust list.

however why do you want trust?

Going to scam?

Uhh no. I would like to take a loan for a bitcoin miner and I've remarked that members with more trust are usually given better loans. And why would I pay money to scam money? That doesn't make much sense to me.

In order to get a loan with no collateral, you have to have an amazing trade record. I highly doubt that I'd be able to get a loan without collateral, nor would I want one for that matter. And if you have collateral anyway, no one cares if you are trusted or not. So if you want a loan, your best option is to just provide collateral.

*edit* Collateral being anything that you can physically provide to your lender in case of your default, so that they can recoup their losses. Common collateral is Alt Coins, Shares, and anything that you can easily physically ship to someone, be it gold/silver, mining hardware, or anything else of value that people will agree to accept as collateral.

Well sometimes you've got to invest a little in a scam. People will trust you more with positive feedback, so buying some trust could be profitable.

And to answer your question, just do trades on here and you'll build up feedback and rep over time. I doubt you'll get a loan as newbie anyway without the amount you are wanting to loan in collateral.

That is correct, the trust system is more about forum politics than anything related to trust.

Agreed, the trust system is just a basic feedback system where people can leave their personal opinions and reviews. Prior trade history is not an indicator of future trade so in most cases its a good idea to use escrow for trades, and use collateral for loans.

Going to scam?

Buying trust is usually counter-productive lol.

you've got to do it discreetly via pm and offer high incentives  Wink

I was a victim in eBay once when someone built a good feedback score only to sell something they didn't have - luckily PayPal stepped in and refunded - just because someone has a lot of trust on this forum doesn't mean you can trust them  Smiley

Slowly build up trust by completing successful trades with others.

people here are so paranoid its basically impossible to build up any trust.. im not saying they are overparanoid mind you as since i registered i have seen plenty of fresh accounts trying to scam anyone and everyone so im sure if i was an established member id also be thinking every newbie is probably a scammer BUT if people dont give you benefit of the doubt how will you ever build trust? its a catch 22...

and then theres the super paranoids like above thinking you want to earn trust in order to scam.. so by that logic then not even long standing well trusted members can be trusted because maybe theyre just building trust to pull off some mega scam? this kind of reminds me of people who are afraid to leave their house because they think they will be struck by lightning, hit by a meteor or god knows what else.

since i seemingly cannot buy BTC here nor can i seem to get a loan of BTC even when willing to put down a deposit/collateral im starting to wonder why im even here? i dont particularly care about the details of BTC or alts bar their value and whether its going up or down which i can easily find on google. my main reason for sticking around so far has been the marketplace but if thats out the window then whats the point staying here and progressing my account?

It's the nature of Bitcoin and the internet I'm afraid. Some of Bitcoin's advantages are also unfortunately advantages to scammers. It's not paranoia; it's just exercising caution. It's best to assume there's a good chance someone is trying to con you than to blindly trust everyone.

And trust is and should be incredibly difficulty to earn. The only real way to gain feedback here is to become an active member of the community and build trust and rep over time. People are more likely to trust each other if they're familiar faces. You can try gain trust by doing smaller trades or selling things on the marketplace and offer to use escrow. Newbs who sign up here trying to buy coins for PP unfortunately look like blatant scammers regardless of their honest intentions.

yea i know.. even in the short time i have been here its clear to see paypal is a massive problem. my issue is/was i have only started messing with bitcoins about 8 days ago and how i have got what i have so far was by buying bitcoins through virwox with paypal because i sell some stuff on ebay so its handy for me to buy things with paypal online. im already on the ball about setting things up so i can buy BTC from markets via my bank account. im also going to look into escrow as i have never used it but from people talking about it here it seems like its safe for no scams, also escrow can be accepted on ebay so i can add that as a payment method to my listings as well.

i think it was like 1 day after i posted a WTB thread that 3 magical "selling XXX BTC for paypal" threads from other newbies coincidentally happened to pop up, funny when i mentioned "you send first" there were no replies after that, not even a simple "no, sorry".

in the week i have been playing with bitcoins i can already see the sheer amount of scammers trying to trick or hack their way to someone elses BTC. on here its scammers trying to trick people into lending, selling, buying. on cex.io chatbox its malicious links in the chat.. i dont expect anyone to blindly trust me as a newbie when so many other newbies are trying to scam.. what i do expect is not to get negative rep or to be followed and defamed for things i have not even done. by all means people can label me a scammer if i actually scam someone but until then speculate about it on the forum and wait and see. the only transaction i have done thus far was good and no scamming.. though seeing how bad paypal is for scamming im amazed foysal was willing to give me benefit of the doubt, saying that though i did pay him before he sent BTC so i took a bit of a leap of faith there also.

In the UK you can use Bittylicious which is very quick and easy to get coins and I recommend it. Using escrow is pretty much the only way to do legit deals on here unless someone is willing to take the chance with you without using one. There's a trusted list of escrowers here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=108716.0

I'd just sell things for PP on ebay, withdraw the money, then buy from exchanges, or try sell items directly on here for coin but offer escrow.

so escrow is not safe either? what are the pitfalls of escrow deals here?

Well escrow is pretty safe as long as you use a reputable escrow agent.

And I got my pin straight away on Bitty, unless you're activating Barclays pingit or something.

And I got my pin straight away on Bitty, unless you're activating Barclays pingit or something.

how do you get scammed on escrow then? i havent even looked to see how it works yet just with people mentioning it alot on here it appears to be somewhat safe?

you misunderstand me about the pin.. im not waiting on the pin from bittylicious.. im waiting on a pin from my bank to arrive in the post so i can activate my mobile phone for a verification method when i add a new payee account in my online banking. once i get that i can start using bittylicious. i have even got the seller form about 2/3 completed as i intend to buy/sell there but need to get the payee thing sorted on my online banking to make an initial buy of BTC to fulfil part of the seller account setup.

EDIT: ok i see what escrow is now, i just googled it. basically both give to 3rd party and 3rd party handles the exchange. no wonder so many use escrow, sounds like a good idea. is there a list of safe/trusted escrow agents for BTC related stuff?

EDIT again: is there not like a main big escrow service/agent? i would have thought escrow would be like paypal in terms of escrow being the businesses name so when someone says via escrow it would be like saying via paypal if you know what i mean.. just looking on google and it seems there are countless escrow services so im not sure which one would be right for BTC as well as anything else i would potentially want to use an escrow service for? what are the popular main agents? i see sedo offer an escrow service, though they also charge like 60 comission if you sell a domain name through their market place which is retarded..

I linked to the trusted escrower thread above. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=108716.0

Escrow is pretty much the only way to ensure a smooth transaction without building up the trust yourself.
