I am a noob and I need help setting up the miner software, please help

I am new to the bitcoin/litecoin world of mining.
Is anyone willing to help me out? I just need to know how/where to enter all the infomation for pooling and starting to mine without a pool
I have read many articles/forums and even readmes from the software, but I don't understand where to enter all the information
