Since it has been speculative up until this point, it has been flat due to lack of major news

But why no demand in spite of such a wider base now ? When do you think the next rise/fall might be ?

Guys, Chinese btc main dealer will open soon. give them some days to receive money from. customers. And since qwe are still in Chinese beginning of the year festivity we have to wait for some days more. My opinion is a Big, big pump in 12/15 February. Buy folks, buy now and be rich forever. Probably exactly now some millions Chinese are sending money to exchange.

Isn't a steady price what we want? A wildly fluctuating price is counter-productive to BTC as a currency. However, I'm sure the price will change on the back of some good/bad news. Patience is all that's needed here.

Well yea we want some stability but not for sooo long .. im sure everybody remembers the daily fluctuations we used to have ... now it just feels like ages have past (relatively in the crypto world) without much of a movement in prices.

Actually the price still move up and down. It is just less aggressive. I know because I am still making profit from trading.

I must admit, it was more exciting when there's activity, but if you're looking for excitement from this I reckon you're in the wrong game, or will need a bit more patience.

According to Slippery Slope's model we are still a bit over where the price should be. I am hopeful of a rise to $2000 in the second half of the year .

There's always a chance, but I think we'll need a couple of big merchants for that.

Why? without any news they'll probably stay steady, but then it could go either way.

Why do we not want stability? If you want to use it as a currency then this is great. Exactly. If we want more people to start using bitcoin as a mean of exchange instead of just speculative investment the value has to be somewhat stable. Of course when more people start using it it should push the price up, which makes this a little paradoxical situation. I'd like to see a steady rise in the value driven by more people and companies _using_ bitcoin. That way the rise would have some kind of foundation.

So you'd rather lose money than it remain stable and quiet? Of late BTC prices seem to have just been stuck ... why is it not moving up or down like earlier ?

Maybe paradoxical, but a slow and steady growth would be better as opposed to wild fluctuations. This is the thing that scares off merchants.
