Mastercard Files Patent for Blockchain-Based Payment Verification Technology

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced a patent application from Mastercard for a system and method that uses blockchain technology for payment card verification at the point-of-scale (PoS). Mastercard filed this patent in December 2016.

This move is aimed at addressing card skimming and will entangle retrieval of payment credentials from a third party source through a publicly accessible blockchain.

Blockchain technologies will be widely spread but it seems to me that bitcoin was only a promotion of this technology. Perhaps he fulfilled its mission and now can disappear. At the same time, blockchain technology will exist in various areas of our lives. Fiat won't give up his position without a fight.

If they really saw potential in blockchain technology then what stops them from promoting cryptocurrency. And this is just the beginning, many other big names are hopping onto this disruptive technology.

The coinidol image supporting the article should have not portrayed a man carrying a Mastercard payment card as the technology that is being patented makes it possible for users not to carry their cards around since the card image is already encrypted and stored on the blockchain. A biometric identification  is then used to identify customers at the point of completing a transaction.

Is US dollars still exist or there is an alternative currency with it. Creating a new coin to support this innovation would be in the mind from those person behind it and I don’t see Bitcoin is be voted as a main cryptocurrency coin as it isn’t centralized and can’t be controlled.
