Since, currently the market is in a huge dip, now would be the perfect time to buy altcoins as they will yield maximum profits. However, one should be careful and invest in only potential coins and not pump and dump coins.
Consider Ethereum. In this dip the coin has seen a great decrease of 30% in its marker capital and since the coin is  the second most popular crypto and widely accepted in the financial market it can cross the $1500 mark by the end of 2018. The coin will give you good profits in the future.

be careful although right now many altcoins are on the down price, it still too risky to buy because the price can go down for more. in a few days ago until last night, I try to buy xzc coin. I place my order buy at 3 different prices and the price still getting down and this makes me break for a while because I don't see that the price can increase in a few days later. but if the price is trying to bounce up then I will make sure that I don't miss to buy the last xzc that I want so I can sell it later.

There is a strategy that I use while I am investing on an altcoin. You would change the percentages for yourself.

If the price is 60% lower than the ATH I would buy with 15% of what I would like to invest in that coin.
If price goes below 70% then I buy 20% more
If price goes below 80% then 25% more
If it goes below 90% then I would invest the rest as 40%

These days most of the altcoins are tanked to well below 70% so it is a good time to buy but, BTC would dip more so those alts would dip more too. So we would see better alt prices in the coming days.

My the best answer is that, follow the prices, choose the altcoins which you consider investing in, and make your investment. But you should never forget that, the market is still falling, and the prices might fall more surprisingly than you can imagine. So, I can say that, not only knowledge, but also luck has a big effect on your gain.
