Large Cryptocurrency Holder Looking to Give

Hey guys,

I am posting to see if anyone else has this problem. I have made substantial amounts of money in cryptocurrency. I bought in early – I wouldn’t classify my wealth as the result of foresight or skill, just luck. I now have a problem: I have a lot of crypto that I would like to give to charity. However, I don’t want to convert my crypto to fiat – it’s a hassle. There’s tax, bank transfer delays, I have to identify myself, the list goes on.

I want to give back after my substantial windfall – I feel humbled to have what I do and I want my money to have an impact in the world. Does anybody else have this problem? What did you guys do? Any suggestions on platforms to give anonymously in cryptocurrency?

I do not know of anywhere you can easily donate cryptocurrency (this really should exist if it doesn't) but depending on how much you wanted to give, I'm sure if you reached out to the charity of your choosing and it was a substantial enough amount they might be able to facilitate this for you.

there are charities that are accepting bitcoin as donation. a decent one that i know of is called BitGive (https://www.bitgivefoundation.org/) you can use exchanges or services such as ShapeShift to covert your altcoins to bitcoin and donate too if you want.

If I were you make sure that you gave it to the right person.There are lots of charity institutions out there but make sure that it will be relay to the needs not to the pocket of the thieves.You can make a project also through your crypto savings were you can hire people who needs job.Good luck and hope you can share your blessings to everyone who badly needs it.

If was a big crypto holder,I would never donate my crypto to some foundation,or crowdfunding platform.I don`t trust them.Can anybody prove that the Bitgive foundation is legit?I would appreciate if anybody provides any proof.I will never giveaway funds to some shaddy charity website.I would just do some research, find a person,who really needs help and donate directly to him/her.

P.S for any whales out there, what do you guys use to give typically? I'm thinking about the good old mail the paper wallet. Probably the best IMO.

No, no, no. Do not mail the paper wallet. Most of these charities do not have a clue what a paper wallet is and how to safely sweep these wallets to use the coins. Some might never reach it's destination.  

I would take the Pinnaple Fund approach if I were you. Post something anonymously on Reddit and do it in public. When you give money to this charity, everyone knows about this and the money would be less likely to end up in the wrong pockets.

Kudos to you for paying it forward. This is the kinda of behaviour the crypto community is supposed to display. Sadly over recent years it's become all about thrash talking other coins and lambo's and moon.

Refreshing to see people in the crypto doing the right thing.

Depending what country you are in, you could also use Localbitcoin.com and sell some BTC for actual cash. Then you can make anonymous cash donations to certain charities.

Another option would be to phone the charities you would like to donate to and ask them what items they are in dire need of, ask them to email you a list of things they might need.

Then you can find a reliable online store that stocks these items and accepts BTC payments...you can order the items and have them delivered straight to the charity. At least this way you will have control of how ur donation is being spent and you won't have to worry about the money being used for silly stuff or being swindled out to some staff members personal bank account.

I would not just look into Charities. I will also Pay it Forward by funding legit ICOs that will grow Bitcoin and it's community. You then re-invest the profits that you get there into more ICO's and more projects. We do not want Bitcoin to stagnate, we want to duplicate what happened to you.

Everyone should have the joy that you are experiencing and they should then Pay it Forward. Too many people are losing money on <scams and Ponzi schemes> and legitimate ICOs that needs the funds are suffering to survive.

I guess you could also go to the lending section here on BT.

There are lots of people there asking for loans, some are not being honest but some are sincere. Most of the lenders will obviously only lend if the person has collateral and most will only want altcoins as collateral. Most of the folks there who need the money don't have collateral so they get turned down. I myself even tried getting a loan there using domains as collateral but no one was keen so I closed the thread. I noticed many people there requesting loans for small amounts to help them out of a jam but they are turned down. Obviously, because the lenders need to protect themselves as well. I think if you poked around that section and made contact with some of the folks who seem sincere and see if you think they are legit there then you could perhaps pay it forward with them. I've also lent someone there without collateral because it was a small amount and I pretty much knew chances are it won't come back...but I figured he must have needed the money badly.
