So I'm thinking of getting into some mining of my own and I thought it would be good to get some different ideas about the kind of rig I'll need. $3000 will probably be the max with maybe a bit of leeway. So what are your ideas?

Whatever is available in your area... high-end ATI GPUs for mining are scarce right now.  Buy what you can find at a decent price.

Get the cheapest CPU and RAM, but don't skimp on the Power Supply or Motherboard. (well... skimp a little bit on the motherboard)

If you can, you could get 5 R9 290s ($500 each), a good power supply (or two, $200), a mother board that has 5 PCI-e slots ($150), some RAM ($100), and a low-power usage processor ($50). That brings you right up to $3,000. Best of luck! Smiley
